Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Babu Singh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Masny! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Masny thuds his right hand into Singh's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Masny feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Singh managing to control the position. Singh looking for a sweep. Not yet Singh, not yet. Singh pulls Masny in close to prevent any damage. Masny pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Singh is keeping the position for now. Masny drops back looking for a leg! Singh is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Singh manages to kick Masny off! Masny jumps back into Singh's guard. Singh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Singh looking to sweep here. No luck so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Singh is working hard here to advance position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Masny trying to control but Singh is working from the bottom. Masny is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Singh looking for a sweep. Not yet Singh, not yet. Masny postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Singh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Masny on the ground. Singh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Masny is one step ahead there. Masny wants to control from the top but Singh keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Singh displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Masny. Singh shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Singh was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Singh working the ground and pound from side control. Masny taking a bit of punishment here - Singh scoring with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Singh wants to lay and pray for a moment but Masny keeps working. You can see the frustration on Masny's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Masny is looking to reverse the position. Singh working the ground and pound. Singh landing strikes. Singh lands a nice forearm strike. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Masny regains half guard. Singh not landing any meaningful shots this time. Masny tries to roll over but Singh keeps him under control. Singh is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Masny avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Singh. Singh stalling. Singh is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Masny reverses the position - he's now on top in Singh's guard. Singh on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Singh tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Singh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Singh controls Masny momentarily but Masny frees himself. Singh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Masny advances to half guard. Masny is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Singh defends it well. Masny thows a huge punch but Singh dodges it nicely.
Singh wants to control but Masny is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Singh regains full guard. Nicely done. Masny forces his way into half guard. Singh tries to roll over but Masny keeps him under control. Singh has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Masny is working away from the top position though. Masny in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Singh tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Masny!
