PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Zawadzki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Byers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zawadzki's entrance music is The Damage Done. A fine choice. David Zawadzki had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Zawadzki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rashad Byers!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byers throws an off balance right hand

and Zawadzki counters with a single leg into guard. Byers didn't expect that.

Byers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zawadzki defends it easily.
Byers keeping moving, preventing Zawadzki from controlling successfully.
We've been hearing that Zawadzki has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Byers preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Zawadzki throws a big elbow that misses.
Zawadzki throwing strikes but missing.
Zawadzki wants to control from the top but Byers keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Byers wants to sweep but no luck.
Zawadzki content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Byers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zawadzki is one step ahead there.
Zawadzki is in close to Byers's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Zawadzki throws a strike but Byers rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Byers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zawadzki swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Byers wants to control from the top but Zawadzki keeps moving.
Zawadzki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Byers trying to control but Zawadzki is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Byers in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A shot to the liver by Byers. Beautiful body shot.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Byers lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Zawadzki has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Zawadzki and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Byers jabs Zawadzki to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Zawadzki takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Zawadzki on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Zawadzki is breathing heavily.
Byers lands a nice looking body shot.
Zawadzki on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.


It looks like David Zawadzki has been cut.
A bone on bone clash there as Zawadzki blocks the leg kick.
Byers throws a right and a left that Zawadzki avoids nicely.
It looked like Zawadzki was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Byers.
Zawadzki gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Byers.
Byers lands with an uppercut that bounces Zawadzki off the cage and back into range.


Zawadzki is rocked!

Byers cracks Zawadzki with a big right hand and Zawadzki goes down!
Oh Zawadzki is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Byers in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Byers is looking to work some ground and pound but Zawadzki has wrist control.
Byers missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Byers content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Byers looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Byers loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zawadzki avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Zawadzki is staying active underneath Byers, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Zawadzki tries to roll over but Byers keeps him under control.
Byers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Byers sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Zawadzki defending well though.

Zawadzki moves out of range as Byers throws a body kick.
Byers connects with a looping right hand.

Byers cracks Zawadzki with a big right hand and Zawadzki goes down!
Rashad Byers has got the better of the ground game so far.
Byers tries to free his leg and advance position but Zawadzki is retaining full guard.
Byers advances position into side control!
Byers working away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Byers tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
The strikes coming from Byers are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Zawadzki taking punishment in the form of punches.
Byers lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Zawadzki down.
Zawadzki can't do much from the bottom here.
Byers wants to stand but Zawadzki is controlling his arm.

Zawadzki takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Zawadzki can't do much from the bottom here.
Byers creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Zawadzki sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Zawadzki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Byers prevents Zawadzki from standing back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Zawadzki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Zawadzki walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


David Zawadzki's cut is getting worse.
Byers scores with a jab to the head.
Byers lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Byers tries a low kick but Zawadzki avoids it.
Zawadzki gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Byers gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rashad Byers!
Rashad Byers very nearly forgot to thank Alcatraz Apparel amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
David Zawadzki was interviewed post fight and said 'I would fight better in the future. I didn't show all of my skills tonight.'.
