Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tom Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ahmed Aljad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ahmed Aljad!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Aljad to the ground. Smith is now in Aljad's guard.
Smith has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Smith connects with a couple of short punches.
Aljad keeping full guard, as Smith tries to pass.
Aljad is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
Aljad is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Aljad is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith throwing strikes but missing.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Aljad gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Aljad stands and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Smith looks to move to half guard but instead Aljad has passed into mount! Damn!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Aljad punching from mount but Smith doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Smith is looking to improve his position but Aljad isn't that keen on the idea.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Aljad gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Smith regains half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aljad tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Smith is not content to let Aljad control the position.

Aljad is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Smith wants to improve his position but Aljad is controlling well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Aljad controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aljad can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Aljad avoids the head kick by Smith.
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Smith throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Aljad counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Aljad.
Aljad tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Smith avoids it.
Aljad trying to stall but Smith improves his position.
Aljad tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.

Aljad is looking to reverse the position.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Aljad has escaped the position, nice work there.
Smith trying to control the action but Aljad is working from the bottom.
Tom Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Aljad sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Smith in particular looking to stall.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aljad is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aljad flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Smith wants to take a breather but Aljad is having none of it.
Aljad wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith looks for a takedown but Aljad sprawls well.
Aljad thinks about the counter body kick.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Aljad can do to turn this around?

Smith shoots in and bounces Aljad off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Aljad utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Aljad is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Smith pushes down on Aljad's leg and manages to get into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Smith lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Aljad should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Aljad has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
