PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leon DeLaurier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leon DeLaurier!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

DeLaurier instigates a clinch.

Lewis decides to pull guard.
DeLaurier slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
DeLaurier controlling the position from side mount.
DeLaurier is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lewis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeLaurier wants to control but Lewis is keeping him busy.
Lewis trying to control but DeLaurier flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

DeLaurier has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Lewis is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
I really don't envy Lewis right now.
DeLaurier is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

DeLaurier is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lewis has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
DeLaurier lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Lewis wants to get back to his feet.
Lewis is really stuck here.

DeLaurier lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by DeLaurier.
DeLaurier is riding his opponent, not letting Lewis buck him off.

DeLaurier looking to break Lewis's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Lewis remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise DeLaurier will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Lewis is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Lewis is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if DeLaurier gets his way!
Oooh a big shot gets through from DeLaurier. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
DeLaurier keeps control of the position as Lewis tries to break free.

A bit of a pause in the action here. DeLaurier controlling the positon.
It looks like DeLaurier might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Lewis is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
DeLaurier lands a shot to the head.
DeLaurier has the hooks in. Lewis is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

DeLaurier has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lewis has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
DeLaurier wants to control but Lewis is keeping busy.

Lewis takes a big shot to the side of the head.
DeLaurier lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by DeLaurier.
DeLaurier scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
I would not like to be Lewis right now.
Lewis trying to control the position but DeLaurier manages to sink in the hooks.

Lewis is working hard here to advance position.

DeLaurier is looking for the choke from the back position but Lewis is controlling his hands well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leon DeLaurier dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


DeLaurier lands with a nice combination. Lewis backs away looking to recover.
DeLaurier moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
DeLaurier stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and DeLaurier wants it to stay on the feet.
DeLaurier tries to bum rush Lewis with a series of wild strikes but Lewis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Leon DeLaurier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DeLaurier gets a double leg takedown into Lewis's guard.
Lewis is trying to keep DeLaurier in close.

Lewis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but DeLaurier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
DeLaurier is stalling in the full guard.

Lewis has his foot on DeLaurier's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. DeLaurier works his way back into a safe position though.

Lewis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lewis has momentary wrist control but DeLaurier slips an elbow through the middle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
DeLaurier trying to control but Lewis is working from the bottom.

Lewis is looking for a triangle here but DeLaurier uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Lewis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
DeLaurier has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
DeLaurier advances to full mount.
DeLaurier with the ground and pound from mount.

Lewis tries to hold on but DeLaurier pushes him away.

Lewis is rocked!
DeLaurier postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Lewis in real trouble here! The ref calls for Lewis to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leon DeLaurier!
