PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyler comes to the cage accompanied by Yep. Lee has chosen Dragonfly by Shaman's Harvest as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 43 - 22 - 4, fighting out of New York, Bruce Lee!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tyler.
Lee misses with a lunging right hand
and Lee takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tyler bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tyler looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
It seemed like Lee was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Tyler looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Tyler takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Lee works the jab nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tyler throws an off balance right hand
and Lee counters with a nice uppercut.
A jab lands there for Tyler.
Tyler throws a shot from downtown. Lee moves away and avoids it.

and Lee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Lee lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Tyler takes one on the button.
Lee misses with a double jab.
Lee slaps away a takedown attempt from Tyler, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lee connects with a looping right hand.
Tyler throws an off balance right hand
and Lee counters with a left and a right that stings Tyler.

and Tyler counters with a nice uppercut.

Tyler tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lee throws out a counter right but Tyler avoids it with no problem.
Tyler looks to land a combination but Lee avoids it well.
Lee has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sloppy strikes from Tyler. Those never looked like landing.
Tyler tries to clinch up but Lee circles away and keeps his distance.
Lee swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Lee avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Lee has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Tyler is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.

and Lee counters with a left and a right that stings Tyler.
Tyler throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lee.
Lee looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Lee lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Tyler uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lee has time to react.

Tyler instigates a clinch.
Tyler has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lee after a bit of a struggle.
Tyler lands a shot to the body.
Tyler struggles to land a body shot inside as Lee controls his hands.

Tyler pulls guard effortlessly.

Tyler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Lee must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lee wanted to stand there but Tyler had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tyler has a closed guard, preventing Lee from standing up.
Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tyler swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee wants to stand but Tyler has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Tyler looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Lee passes into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lee decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Tyler tries to bum rush Lee with a series of wild strikes but Lee uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lee looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Lee dominated that round.
That's time! Tyler's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tyler shoots in looking for a takedown but Lee manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tyler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lee doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Tyler takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Tyler throws a series of punches but Lee moves out of range.
Lee lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Lee misses with a looping left.
Nice uppercut there from Lee.

No joy there for Lee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A combination from Tyler does no damage.
Lee throws out a counter right but Tyler avoids it with no problem.

Bruce Lee seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Lee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lee wants it to stay on the feet.
Lee digs a good body shot into Tyler's ribs.
Tyler swings for the body but Lee moves out of range.
Lee scores with a hook to the body. Tyler takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tyler connects with a single shot there.
Tyler fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Lee looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Lee takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Lee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Lee misses with a few strikes there.
It looked like Tyler wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Tyler missing with a left hand there. Lee was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Lee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lee looks to score with a jab to the body but Tyler is just out of range.
Tyler looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tyler throws a hook but Lee blocks it.
Tyler throws a big shot that misses.
Lee lands a jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Tyler is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Tyler takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lee misses with an uppercut. Tyler saw that one coming.
Lee fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Tyler.

Lee throws a poor cross that misses
and Tyler makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jake Tyler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lee jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tyler is looking to counter punch.

Tyler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bruce Lee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lee holds on and takes a little breather.

It looked like Tyler was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Lee.

Tyler throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake Tyler.
I think Lee has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Bruce Lee made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Jake Tyler had this to say: 'Ricardo Gracie, fight me boy, you punk you've been ducking me for years. I didn't give a shit about this fight I'm not motivated and wanted to retire. I'm only staying in this to beat duck Gracie one more time. What a joke this is.'.
