Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Opie River (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). River's entrance music is Skillet - Monster . A fine choice. Stanley has chosen The man that you FEAR as his entrance music. Kyle Stanley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 2, fighting out of New York, Opie River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kyle Stanley!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stanley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in River's guard.

River looking for a guillotine here but Stanley defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stanley makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Stanley throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Stanley trying to control but River is working from the bottom.

Stanley avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
River keeping moving, preventing Stanley from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now River is on top in guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
River preventing the sweep.
River stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stanley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stanley is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stanley looking to hit a scissor sweep but River is one step ahead there.
River lands a couple of decent looking shots.
River trying to control the position from guard on top but Stanley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stanley is trying to control the position but River postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
River throws a strike but Stanley rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

River pulls Stanley in close to prevent any damage.
Stanley is looking to work some ground and pound but River has wrist control.

Stanley is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
River is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stanley moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Stanley lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stanley passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Stanley trying to control the action but River is working from the bottom.
River is looking for a sweep.
Stanley misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Stanley controls the position.
River takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
River tries to buck Stanley off but Stanley is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
River gets back to half guard.
Stanley wants to pass the guard but River is defending well.
Stanley seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but River does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stanley missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Stanley is looking to pass River's guard but actually River recovers to full guard.
Stanley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. River swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stanley advances position into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Stanley dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A shot to the body from River misses
and Stanley makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
River throws an off balance right hand
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Stanley.
River appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Stanley lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Stanley misses with a body kick.
River attempts a counter takedown but Stanley avoids it well and moves away.
Stanley tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
River pulls out of a head kick attempt.

River shoots in and bounces Stanley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells River's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
River is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've been hearing that River has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Stanley throws his legs up looking for a submission but River uses it to pass to side control.
Stanley is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked River off and has taken his back!
Well, with Stanley on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before River is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
River just trying to survive but Stanley is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
What can River do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Stanley thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Stanley landing with strikes.
Stanley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Stanley lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Stanley scores with punches and elbows.

River showing good submission defense here.

Stanley looking for the choke but no joy.
River can't escape the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stanley lands a shot to the head.
Stanley looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
River tries to roll but Stanley sticks to his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stanley tries to get the hooks in deep but River pushed the leg off.
Kyle Stanley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stanley gets his hands free as River looks to control.
I would not like to be River right now.
A lull in the action here.

Stanley is persistently looking for the submission but River is defending it well.
Stanley is punishing River with some ground and pound.
River rolls, trying to escape but Stanley keeps control of the position.
River avoids the strikes from Stanley.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stanley scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Stanley is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at River. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
River is really stuck here.

Stanley is cranking River's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for River! He's tightened the choke and River is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kyle Stanley!
Kyle Stanley took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'Yea bitch You wanted 5 more rounds.You got lucky I was high during my last fight. Now you know your not good enough. If you were gonna do great things you would have done them already. Your a bum kill yourself'.
