Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kira Miyata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miyata's entrance music is Boa - Energetic. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kira Miyata! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Patton! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miyata lands with a cross. Patton drops his hands momentarily and Miyata takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Patton swings and misses with a shot to the body and Patton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Patton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Miyata counters with a stiff right hand. Patton throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Miyata. Miyata is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Miyata moves out of range as Patton strikes. Miyata connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Patton momentarily.
Miyata fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Patton on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Rick Patton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Miyata lands a jab to Patton's midsection. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Miyata dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Patton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Miyata drops down looking for a counter takedown but Patton sprawls and moves away. Miyata shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Patton as he jumps to the side. Miyata scores with a hook. Patton tries to sprawl but Miyata drives through with a takedown into half guard. Miyata looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Miyata not landing any meaningful shots this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patton has his hands clasped together around Miyata's back. He's all about the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miyata is figuring out what he wants to do next. Miyata trying to control the action but Patton is working from the bottom. Patton is controlling Miyata's position as best he can from this difficult position. Patton is trying to get back to full guard. Patton manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Patton trying to keep a closed guard but Miyata is proving a slippery customer.
Patton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
I've been told that Patton has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game. Miyata keeping full guard, as Patton tries to pass. Miyata has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Miyata is trying to keep Patton in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Miyata looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Patton postures up in Miyata's guard and throws a big left but Miyata blocks it. Miyata escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Patton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Miyata working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Patton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Patton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Patton trying to control but Miyata is working from the bottom. Miyata looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miyata keeping moving, preventing Patton from controlling successfully. Miyata not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Miyata utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Patton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Miyata avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Miyata pulls Patton in close to his closed guard and prevents Patton from doing any damage or advancing position. Miyata keeping moving, preventing Patton from controlling successfully. Miyata looking to hit a scissor sweep but Patton is one step ahead there. Patton tries to free his leg and advance position but Miyata is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kira Miyata dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like Kira Miyata has been cut. Miyata takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Patton misses with a hook. Patton jabbing away but nothing is landing. Patton throws a right hand that Miyata ducks under and follows up with a left that Miyata also avoids with ease. Miyata dips to his left and cracks Patton with an uppercut! Nice straight punches there by Miyata. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Miyata. Patton misses with an uppercut. Patton takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Miyata slips a jab from Patton. Patton rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Miyata moves out of range and avoids them all easily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miyata ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kira Miyata is winning the standup battle so far. Miyata connects with a nice looking jab.

Miyata looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Miyata definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Patton loads up on a big right hand but Miyata slips the punch. Miyata is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Patton can do to turn this around? Miyata's corner calls for a 1-2. Miyata obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Miyata went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Miyata steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Patton. Patton throws a left and a right that both miss
and Miyata counters with a straight right hand. Miyata jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Patton throws a body punch but Miyata moves out of range. Miyata connects with a crisp jab. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Miyata!
Miyata fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Patton on the side of the head. Miyata scores with a hook. Patton takes a solid shot to the body. Patton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Miyata was well out of range. Poor timing from Patton. Miyata lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Miyata fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patton manages to avoid it. Miyata's corner calls for a 1-2. Miyata obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Miyata shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patton's guard. Miyata throws a big right hand that misses. Patton wants to improve his position but Miyata is controlling well.

Miyata seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Patton for as long as he can get away with.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Miyata shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Miyata showed some decent athleticism there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patton gets full guard. Miyata wants to control from the top but Patton keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Patton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Miyata has passed into side control.
Patton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miyata. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Miyata looks up at the clock and then as Patton takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Miyata smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Miyata wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Patton, who protects the arm well. Miyata is looking to take a break and control but Patton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Patton tries to buck Miyata off but Miyata is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kira Miyata dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Kira Miyata's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Donk. Patton catches Miyata right on the button with a cross. Miyata bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Patton is looking for a sweep. Miyata tries to advance to mount but Patton denies him. Miyata tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Patton struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Patton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miyata wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Miyata staying calm. Miyata is chipping away with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miyata lands a decent elbow from side control. Patton is not content to let Miyata control the position. A bit of a lull in the action here. Rick Patton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Miyata tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miyata has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Miyata just content to control the position. Miyata has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Patton trying his best to control but Miyata has mounted him. Patton tries to reverse the position but Miyata maintains control. Miyata lands a big shot there that rocks Patton but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Patton is desperately trying to improve his position but Miyata has a good base and remains in mount. Miyata is in the full mount, landing strikes. Miyata scoring with strikes but Patton is staying in there. Patton is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Patton taking shots to the head. Miyata trying to control but Patton is having none of it. Miyata lands a nice shot to the head. Patton wants to control but Miyata is having none of it. Patton is desperately trying to improve his position but Miyata has a good base and remains in mount. Miyata avoids the attempt from Patton to control. Patton is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miyata controlling from mount. Miyata in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Patton is bucking up trying to escape but Miyata cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Kira Miyata overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Miyata looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Miyata trying to control but Patton is having none of it. Patton tries to hold on but Miyata postures up. Miyata pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Patton throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
And that's the end of the fight! Kira Miyata showed his dominance in that final round. Well Miyata has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
