Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Emunn Samvesu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aznar Thrul! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thrul fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Samvesu has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Thrul throws a sloppy head kick and Samvesu counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Thrul throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Samvesus head. Thrul stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Samvesu is trying to drag Thrul to the mat but Thrul just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Thrul misses with a punch to the body.
A short right from Thrul. A quick uppercut on the inside from Thrul. A head punch on the inside from Thrul fails to land. Thrul pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Aznar Thrul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thrul avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Thrul bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Samvesu's head. Thrul displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Samvesu. Samvesu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thrul swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Emunn Samvesu. That's going to take a lot out of him. This has been an exciting period of action! Sloppy strikes from Thrul. Those never looked like landing. We've been informed that Thrul has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. A head kick from Thrul lands but Samvesu takes it in his stride.
That's one minute gone in the round. Samvesu closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Samvesu lands in his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thrul sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Samvesu's guard. Thrul has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Samvesu is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Thrul scores with a couple of nice shots. Thrul scoring with strikes to the body and head. Samvesu's coaches at The Cave Fighting Team have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. That's four minutes gone in the round. Thrul stands up over Samvesu, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Thrul scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Thrul trying to control but Samvesu is working from the bottom. Thrul keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Samvesu's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thrul chips away with some ground and pound. Thrul working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Samvesu keeping moving, preventing Thrul from controlling successfully. Samvesu isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Thrul stacks Samvesu on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Thrul! Thrul lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Samvesu down.

Aznar Thrul dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Thrul comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Samvesu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Thrul sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Thrul manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Samvesu drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Thrul manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Samvesu has Thrul in his guard. Samvesu wants to sweep but no luck. Thrul is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Samvesu trying to keep a closed guard but Thrul is proving a slippery customer.
Samvesu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Samvesu tries to get out of the position. Thrul is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Thrul works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Samvesu is rocked! Thrul drops a couple of huge strikes from the back position and Samvesu is in real trouble here! Thrul lands more strikes and the referee has to step in to end the fight! Thrul is delighted!
