PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Hurst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tai Chi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tai Chi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Demarcus Hurst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tai Chi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Chi with that takedown attempt.

Chi moves into the clinch.
Chi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hurst pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hurst shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chi as he jumps to the side.
Chi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hurst defends well and Chi ends up having to push Hurst into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Demarcus Hurst has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tai Chi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hurst tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hurst somewhat.
Chi feints the counter takedown.

Chi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hurst stacks Chi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hurst!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Chi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hurst is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hurst is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Chi to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Chi has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hurst has passed into side control.

and Hurst counters with a two punch combo.
Hurst fails with a takedown attempt.
Chi closes the distance but Hurst moves to the side

Hurst thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Chi wants to control the position but Hurst says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Hurst is working for an americana but Chi has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Hurst was thinking about the submission.

Chi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hurst stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Hurst keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Chi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Hurst counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Chi!

Hurst is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chi has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hurst wants to control but Chi is keeping him busy.

Chi is trying to control Hurst's posture but Hurst avoids it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hurst blocks Chi's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Chi is squirming around, avoiding Hurst's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Demarcus Hurst dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Hurst shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Chi wants to control but Hurst passes into side.
Chi is pushing Hurst's head away, looking to escape. Hurst manages to hold on to the position though.

Demarcus Hurst overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hurst has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Chi is trying to remain composed but Hurst is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Hurst will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hurst throwing strikes and Chi squirms under the pressure, ending up mounted.
Chi is trying to stand up.
BOOM! Hurst connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Chi manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hurst is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chi can do to turn this around?

Hurst perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Chi wants to get back to full guard but Hurst has passed into side control.
Chi tries to bench press Hurst off him but Hurst keeps the position.

Hurst is looking to control Chi but Chi is wriggling around and keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hurst lands punches and elbows.
Hurst controlling well, preventing Chi from escaping the position.
Chi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Demarcus Hurst is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hurst is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Chi with him. Chi is trying to defend but Hurst has an arm under the chin now! Chi grimaces and is forced to tap out!
