PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zak Drezner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drezner comes to the cage accompanied by Cypress Hill - Checkmate. Scott comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bang - By Barry Scott kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 14 - 4, fighting out of Helsinki, Zak Drezner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 20 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Scott!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Scott lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Scott keeps the fight on the outside.
Scott feints the counter takedown.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Scott lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Drezner has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Drezner and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Nice defenses there by Scott.

Scott wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drezner keeps working.

Drezner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Drezner is pulling down on Scott's head. It's preventing any offense from Scott, at least for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Drezner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Drezner moves into the clinch successfully.

Drezner looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Drezner blocks an uppercut.
Drezner lands a shoulder strike.
Scott lands with a right to the head.
Scott misses with the head strike.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Drezner.
Drezner definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Drezner tries to break the clinch but Scott is controlling the position.
Drezner tries to stall but Scott uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Drezner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Scott swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Drezner is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Scott.
Drezner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Scott avoids the body shot from Drezner.
Scott drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Drezner defends it well.
Drezner lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Scott slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Drezner fakes the leg kick and cracks Scott in the body.

Drezner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Drezner bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Drezner scores with a push kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drezner rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Scott moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Drezner is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Scott is defending well for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Zak Drezner will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Drezner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Scott is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Drezner's jab looks to have found its range, popping Scott under the eye.
Drezner steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Scott.
Drezner turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Drezner walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Scott checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Drezner takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Scott looks to land a combination but Drezner avoids it well.

Scott throws a right and a left that Drezner avoids nicely.

Drezner takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Drezner throws a front kick that sends Scott stumbling back into the cage.
Drezner's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Scott connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Drezner scrambles back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scott tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Drezner is able to avoid easily.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Scott has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Drezner is trying to keep an underhook but Scott manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Scott finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Barry Scott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
