Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Bessac! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Panther! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bessac misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bessac tries for a takedown but Panther circles away easily and Panther counters with a nice double leg into guard. Panther trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Panther loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Bessac has momentary wrist control but Panther slips an elbow through the middle. Panther lands a couple of decent looking shots. Panther is looking to work some ground and pound but Bessac has wrist control. Panther working some strikes from top position. Panther stands up from Bessac's guard - Panther perhaps looking for a knockout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bessac tries to clinch but Panther is having none of it. Bessac tries for a takedown but Panther circles away easily and Panther counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Panther has Bessac pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Panther pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Bessac tumbling to the mat - Panther dives into Bessac's guard. Bessac looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Panther passes into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panther is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Bessac is trying to escape and Panther transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Bessac is forced to tap! Nice work there by Panther! Very nice indeed!
