Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Laurens Van Der Sluijs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Stanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Der Sluijs comes to the cage accompanied by Shutterbugg - Big Boi Feat. Cutty. Stanson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Until The End. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Laurens Van Der Sluijs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Brian Stanson! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Ben Watson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Der Sluijs closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Van Der Sluijs lands in his opponent's guard. Van Der Sluijs throws a big right hand that misses. Van Der Sluijs looking to sit in guard and control but Stanson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Stanson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Van Der Sluijs avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stanson tries to stand but Van Der Sluijs is controlling from the bottom. Stanson chips away with some ground and pound. Van Der Sluijs managing to control the position.

Van Der Sluijs has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Van Der Sluijs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Van Der Sluijs has his hands on Stanson's head, controlling the position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Van Der Sluijs working a defensive guard but Stanson manages to pass into side control anyway.
Stanson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Van Der Sluijs is trying to control Stanson's posture but Stanson avoids it. Stanson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Stanson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Van Der Sluijs is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stanson has control of an arm but Van Der Sluijs manages to advance to Stanson's back! Van Der Sluijs wants to control but Stanson manages to buck him off and is now in Van Der Sluijs's guard! Nice work there by Stanson! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Van Der Sluijs wants to pass the guard but Stanson is keeping the position. That was a close round but I would say that Laurens Van Der Sluijs will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Sloppy strikes from Stanson. Those never looked like landing. Van Der Sluijs thows a body kick. Stanson tries to catch it but that hurt him. Stanson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Van Der Sluijs tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Stanson is in Van Der Sluijs's guard. Stanson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Van Der Sluijs pushes Stanson off and gets back to his feet.
Van Der Sluijs swings for the body but Stanson moves out of range.
Stanson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Van Der Sluijs as he avoids it easily. Brian Stanson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Stanson fails to land the takedown. Van Der Sluijs throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
It looks like Brian Stanson has been cut. Brian Stanson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Van Der Sluijs buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Stanson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Van Der Sluijs swivels and escapes. Van Der Sluijs feinted with a counter takedown. Laurens Van Der Sluijs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Stanson. Stanson takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Van Der Sluijs shoots in looking for a takedown but Stanson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Van Der Sluijs's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Van Der Sluijs shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stanson's guard. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Van Der Sluijs circles away from the clinch attempt.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Van Der Sluijs scores with a sloppy right hand. Stanson should have avoided that one. Van Der Sluijs stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Van Der Sluijs wants it to stay on the feet. Van Der Sluijs slips a jab and a cross from Stanson.
Stanson moves in looking to clinch but Van Der Sluijs pushes him off. Stanson fails with a takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stanson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Stanson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Van Der Sluijs stands up over Stanson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Stanson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Van Der Sluijs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Van Der Sluijs trying to control but Stanson is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Stanson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Stanson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Van Der Sluijs wants to get back to his feet.

Stanson sprawls well initially but Van Der Sluijs persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Stanson is not content to let Van Der Sluijs control the position. Van Der Sluijs throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Stanson to regain full guard. Stanson controls Van Der Sluijs momentarily but Van Der Sluijs frees himself. Van Der Sluijs is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Laurens Van Der Sluijs is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Der Sluijs wants to control from the top but Stanson keeps moving. Van Der Sluijs is stalling in the full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Stanson takes a jab right on the kisser.
Stanson shoots in and bounces Van Der Sluijs off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Stanson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Van Der Sluijs not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Stanson with a lazy takedown attempt and Van Der Sluijs counters with a right hand to the body. Laurens Van Der Sluijs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Stanson. Stanson misses with a takedown and Van Der Sluijs counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Brian Stanson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Stanson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Stanson is trying to ground and pound but Van Der Sluijs uses the momentary lack of control by Stanson to regain half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Stanson throwing shots but Van Der Sluijs is blocking nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Laurens Van Der Sluijs. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Van Der Sluijs, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
