PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mervin Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shortie Fat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mervin Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shortie Fat!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ben Watson and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Taylor enables Fat to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Taylor manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Taylor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Fat postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fat accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Taylor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fat gets to his feet. Taylor looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Fat looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Taylor avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Taylor looking for a kimura from the bottom but Fat passes into side control!

Fat decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A bone on bone clash there as Taylor blocks the leg kick.
Fat will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

A head kick by Fat misses
and Taylor counters with a three punch combo that has Fat backing up. Fat nods at Taylor to acknowledge the strikes.
Fat throws a low kick but Taylor moves out of range easily.
Fat looks to land a combination but Taylor avoids it well.
Taylor takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Fat looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Fat misses with the combination.
Taylor seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Fat fails with an attempt to clinch.
Taylor really is a fat lump.
Taylor throws a series of punches but Fat moves out of range.
Shortie Fat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fat changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Taylor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fat remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Taylor tries to buck Fat off but Fat is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fat is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Taylor will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Taylor keeps working.

Fat controlling the position.
Taylor wants to control but Fat postures up.
Fat postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Taylor defending against the ground and pound.
Fat advances to full mount.
Taylor is looking to get to half guard.
Fat controlling the pace for now.
Fat thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fat wants to finish this one by submission but Taylor is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Fat.
Taylor is in all sorts of trouble here.

Fat is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Taylor is surviving well by controlling Fat's body position as best he can.
Taylor is desperately trying to improve his position but Fat has a good base and remains in mount.
Fat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Taylor is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Taylor is desperately trying to improve his position but Fat has a good base and remains in mount.

Taylor gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fat to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Fat seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Taylor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fat defends well.
Fat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fat is pushing down on Taylor's leg trying to pass to half guard. Taylor is fighting to maintain full guard but Fat has managed to sneak the leg through.

Fat decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Fat closes the distance and clinches.

Fat wants the takedown. Taylor is fighting it off but Fat persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Taylor's guard against the cage.
Fat slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Taylor tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fat wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Fat has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Fat shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Taylor is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fat is aware though and is defending well.
Fat content to stall in guard here.
Let's hope that Fat has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Fat has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Taylor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Fat is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fat working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fat looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Taylor gets caught flat footed, as Fat shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fat pushing down on Taylor's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Taylor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fat is working away from the top position though.

Fat takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Taylor wants to improve his position but Fat is controlling well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Taylor is looking to control Fat's arms but Fat gets an underhook and turns him. Now Taylor has his back to the cage.

Taylor is trying to control Fat's posture but Fat avoids it.

Fat tries to get the hooks in deep but Taylor pushed the leg off.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Fat controlling the positon.
Fat's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Shortie Fat has got the better of the ground game so far.
Taylor is trying to break free.

Fat trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Fat is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Taylor is defending well though. Fat let's go of the attempt for now.
Taylor tries to escape but Fat has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

I really don't envy Taylor right now.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Fat.

Well Fat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
