The bell rings for round one and we are underway! West shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yury is trying to defend but West finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Matos Yury seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. West shoots in from a long way out. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. West loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. West shoots in and bounces Yury off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. West scoring with punches to the head and body. West postures up and lands a big shot to Yury's brow. Hammerfist, elbow! yells West's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! West with a flurry of punches that miss. West is working Yury over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Matos Yury has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! John West is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. West is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that's the end of the fight! John West showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for West, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
