Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Richard Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Cardoso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patrick Cardoso will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Richard Mercer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Patrick Cardoso ! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mercer is looking to clinch but Cardoso is avoiding it.
Cardoso fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Mercer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Cardoso fails in his attempt to clinch. Mercer swats away the attempt to clinch by Cardoso . Cardoso shoots in and bounces Mercer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Cardoso stands up from Mercer's guard - Cardoso perhaps looking for a knockout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cardoso stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cardoso wants it to stay on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cardoso shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mercer napping and manages to drive through into side control! Mercer really is a fat lump. Cardoso decides to stand back up. Cardoso misses with a double jab.
Mercer lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Mercer keeps the fight on the outside. A punch combination from Mercer misses. Cardoso wants to clinch. Mercer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Mercer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Cardoso is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Mercer controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Cardoso thows a huge punch but Mercer dodges it nicely.
Cardoso stands up out of the half guard. Mercer wants to clinch up but Cardoso keeps it at a distance. Cardoso throws out a leg kick but Mercer moves out of range and Cardoso only half commits.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cardoso stuffs the takedown attempt from Mercer. Mercer gets slowly back to his feet. Cardoso swats away the attempt to clinch by Mercer. Despite the aggression on Cardoso 's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Mercer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cardoso to score an easy takedown into full guard. Cardoso scoring with punches to the head and body. Mercer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cardoso postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cardoso decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mercer, up you get! Mercer is breathing heavily. Cardoso darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Still in half guard, Cardoso seems content to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mercer keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mercer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cardoso on the ground. Cardoso looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Cardoso dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Cardoso looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mercer is fending him off so far but Cardoso persists. Nope, Mercer circles away and we're back to standing. Richard Mercer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Cardoso closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mercer did well to prevent Cardoso getting side control. Cardoso takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Cardoso stands up and beckons Mercer to join him on the feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cardoso closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mercer's guard. Cardoso content to stall in guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer is working an open guard so Cardoso takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Mercer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cardoso to score an easy takedown into full guard. Mercer preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cardoso 's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cardoso slips nicely into half guard. Cardoso is nestled in close to Mercer, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Mercer is in trouble now - Cardoso has advanced to mount! Mercer takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cardoso cracks Mercer with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cardoso controlling his opponent. Cardoso lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Mercer is rocked! Cardoso controlling from the full mount. Oh Mercer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Cardoso lands a big elbow - Mercer is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Mercer is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Patrick Cardoso !
