Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Richard Mcconnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Gusmao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Richard Mcconnell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Richard Mcconnell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Mcconnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yuri Gusmao ! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gusmao throws a body shot but no joy. Gusmao avoids the head kick by Mcconnell.
Mcconnell tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Mcconnell slips a jab and a cross from Gusmao .
Gusmao clinches up with Mcconnell and pushes him back against the cage. Mcconnell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gusmao just stands there and leans against the cage. Gusmao is trying to break the clinch but Mcconnell is controlling him. Gusmao decides to pull guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gusmao looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mcconnell puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Gusmao tries to roll over but Mcconnell keeps him under control. Gusmao tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Mcconnell has advanced to mount. Uh oh. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gusmao tries to lock up and control but Mcconnell gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gusmao is trying to escape the mount.
Gusmao prevents any damage by holding on tight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Mcconnell blocks Gusmao 's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Gusmao throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Gusmao is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gusmao tries to control Mcconnell's body but Mcconnell pushes him off. Gusmao squirms to his side and now Mcconnell has his back! Gusmao wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gusmao is really stuck here.
Mcconnell has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gusmao has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Mcconnell is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gusmao is defending well though. Mcconnell let's go of the attempt for now. Gusmao wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gusmao manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Gusmao . Gusmao working for submissions but it's allowed Mcconnell to get to half guard.
Gusmao wants to get back to full guard but Mcconnell has mounted him! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gusmao tries to lock up and control but Mcconnell gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. You get the feeling that Gusmao really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Mcconnell moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Gusmao . Gusmao is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mcconnell is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gusmao has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gusmao is pushing Mcconnell's head away, looking to escape. Mcconnell manages to hold on to the position though. You can see the frustration on Gusmao 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mcconnell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gusmao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Mcconnell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gusmao knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gusmao can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mcconnell is trying to get an arm triangle but Gusmao is defending well. Gusmao is looking for a sweep. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gusmao is positioning himself to get back to half guard. That was a close second round but I would say that Richard Mcconnell will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Gusmao tightens his grip and picks Mcconnell up, before dumping him to the ground. Mcconnell manages to land in guard. Mcconnell wants to sweep here but Gusmao controlling him for the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gusmao has gone for a leg lock! Mcconnell slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gusmao 's guard. Mcconnell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gusmao works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcconnell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Mcconnell throwing strikes but missing. Gusmao pulls Mcconnell in close to prevent any damage. Gusmao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mcconnell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mcconnell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Gusmao has Mcconnell pulled in close to control his posture. Gusmao looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mcconnell passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Gusmao 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gusmao looking for a sweep but Mcconnell has passed into full mount! Oh no! Yuri Gusmao has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Gusmao is trying desperately to improve position. Mcconnell avoids the attempt from Gusmao to control. Mcconnell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gusmao can do to turn this around?
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gusmao has given up his back here.
Mcconnell is looking for the choke from the back position but Gusmao is controlling his hands well. Mcconnell has the hooks in. Gusmao is starting to panic. He's trying to push off one of the legs but he's left his neck open to attack. Mcconnell passes his arm under Gusmao 's neck and tightens up a rear naked choke! This one is surely all over! Yes, Gusmao taps!
