Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oswaldo Barrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tyler Nix! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barrera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Barrera controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nix is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barrera gets to his feet. Nix looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Barrera shoots for a double leg takedown but Nix sprawls well. He's pushed Barrera's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nix is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Barrera tries to clinch but Nix is having none of it. Barrera looks for a takedown but Nix sprawls well. Barrera shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oswaldo Barrera. That's going to take a lot out of him. That's two minutes gone in the round. Barrera shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nix napping and manages to drive through into side control! Barrera stands up. Barrera shoots for a takedown but Nix saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A right-left combo lands from Nix. Nix throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Barrera.

A good leg kick by Nix. Nix scores with a head kick. Barrera tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Barrera tries to clinch but Nix moves away and Nix counters with a lovely straight right hand! Tyler Nix is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nix pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Barrera. As Barrera backs off Nix throws a huge counter combo but Barrera manages to avoid it all. Barrera tries to close the distance and clinch but Nix swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nix tries a head kick but it misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barrera tries for a takedown but Nix circles away easily and Nix counters with a straight right hand. Nix keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Nice shot by Nix. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nix throws a head kick that misses. Barrera seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Barrera fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tyler Nix dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Nix slaps away a takedown attempt from Barrera, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nix raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Nix throws a head kick but Barrera moves out of range.

Barrera tries to close the distance and clinch but Nix swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Despite the aggression on Nix's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Nix rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Barrera moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Barrera shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Barrera was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Nix has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barrera is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nix knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Barrera sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Nix is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Nix is looking for a sweep. Barrera has knee on belly and moves into mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Barrera content just to control the position here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barrera has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barrera misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Barrera tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Nix looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Barrera stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Nix moves into range and connects with a jab. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Barrera fails miserably with a takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oswaldo Barrera dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Oswaldo Barrera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Barrera feints and as Nix raises his hands in defense, Barrera changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Barrera prevents Nix from getting back to his feet. Barrera drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nix manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barrera has Nix in his guard. Barrera tries to land a sweep but no joy. Barrera is pulling down on Nix's head to control his posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barrera throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Barrera is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Nix is pressed up against the cage. Barrera has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nix down to the mat. Nix avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Barrera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nix avoids it really well and circles away. Nix is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oswaldo Barrera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Nix counters with a nice kick to the body. Barrera throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Nix tries to counter by closing the distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barrera misses with a takedown and Nix counters with a head kick. That will keep Barrera thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Barrera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nix but Nix pushes him off and we're back to square one. Despite the aggression on Nix's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Nix throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Barrera. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Barrera doesn't succeed with the takedown and Nix counters with a left and a right that stings Barrera.
And that's the end of the fight! Tyler Nix comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Nix has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
