Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Apachai Hopachai!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ortiz has managed to clinch.

Hopachai breaks from the clinch.

Ortiz gets tackled into the cage by Hopachai. Hopachai maintains the clinch.
Hopachai is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ortiz is trying to break free.
Hopachai prevents a body shot from Ortiz.
Hopachai is working for takedown but Ortiz is calmly controlling the position for now.

Hopachai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ortiz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hopachai was covering up waiting for the punch and Ortiz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hopachai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ortiz is in close to Hopachai's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ortiz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ortiz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hopachai really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hopachai looking to control.
Hopachai avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hopachai wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hopachai wants to stand but Ortiz is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ortiz shoots in looking for a takedown but Hopachai manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ortiz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hopachai gets a clinch.
Hopachai lands an uppercut.

Hopachai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Apachai Hopachai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ortiz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hopachai circles away.
Hopachai is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Ortiz dives in for a single leg takedown but Hopachai sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hopachai misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hopachai darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Ortiz tries to get to full guard but Hopachai has control of the leg.
Ortiz is holding on to half guard well.
Ortiz wants to control but Hopachai is keeping busy.
Ortiz wants to improve his position but Hopachai is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hopachai tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Ortiz.
Ortiz is trying to control but can't.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ortiz manages to get to full guard.
Hopachai wants to control from the top but Ortiz keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hopachai fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ortiz sprawls well initially but Hopachai persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hopachai tries to stand and escape but Ortiz is controlling the position.
Hopachai is thwarting Ortiz's attempts to control the position.
Hopachai is trying to control the action in half guard but Ortiz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hopachai wants to get back to his feet.
Ortiz is controlling Hopachai's trapped leg to prevent Hopachai from advancing to side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ortiz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ortiz.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Apachai Hopachai dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ortiz wants to clinch.
Hopachai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ortiz sprawls well. Ortiz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hopachai gets slowly back to his feet.
Hopachai misses with a head kick.
Ortiz avoids the head kick by Hopachai.
Ortiz half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ortiz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hopachai to the mat! Hopachai manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopachai working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Ortiz.

Hopachai wants to reverse the position here. Ortiz has hold of a leg though and he's dropped back looking for a kneebar! The fighters roll across the mat but Hopachai is forced to tap! Hopachai looks devastated but at least his leg points in the right direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Joe Ortiz!
