PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Janne Kahko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lionil Besi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Janne Kahko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lionil Besi!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Besi shoots in and gets a takedown into Kahko's guard.
Besi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Besi passes Kahko's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Besi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kahko knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Besi is still trying to improve position.
Besi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Besi trying to control the pace.
Besi wants to advance to full mount but Kahko doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Besi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kahko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kahko trying to keep a closed guard but Besi is proving a slippery customer.
Besi prevents Kahko from getting back to his feet.
Kahko can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Besi controls the pace.
Besi trying to control the position from guard on top but Kahko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Besi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kahko swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Besi is pushing down on Kahko's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kahko is fighting to maintain full guard but Besi has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kahko makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kahko.
Besi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Besi wants to pass the guard but Kahko is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Besi trying to control the position from guard on top but Kahko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kahko has a closed guard, preventing Besi from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Kahko moves into the clinch.
Besi misses with a hook from the clinch.

Besi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kahko lands a jab.

Besi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Besi working away.
Besi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Kahko is not content to let Besi control the position.
Kahko prevents Besi from improving position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Besi is looking to take a break and control but Kahko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Besi taking a breather here.
Besi tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Kahko tries to bench press Besi off him but Besi keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kahko struggling a bit here.
Besi tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Besi trying to control the position but Kahko is working away.
Besi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kahko haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Besi advances nicely into full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lionil Besi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Besi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Besi controlling the pace.
Besi is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Besi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Besi stopping the sweep attempt from Kahko.
Besi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Besi tries to advance to mount but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Besi staying calm.
Besi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Kahko!

Besi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kahko is looking to escape.

Besi is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kahko to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kahko shrugs it off.
Besi wants to control the pace but Kahko is squirming around nicely.
Besi avoids the attempt from Kahko to control.
Besi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Besi tries to control but Kahko wriggling away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Besi punching from mount but Kahko doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Besi trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Besi controlling his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Besi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kahko is now in Besi's guard. A big mistake from Besi there, giving up the dominant position!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Besi can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kahko won't allow Besi to get back to his feet.
Kahko tries to stand but Besi is controlling from the bottom.
Kahko wants to stand and escape but instead Besi has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Besi wants to control from the top but Kahko keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Besi tries to free his leg and advance position but Kahko is retaining full guard.
Kahko is trying to control the position but Besi postures up.
Besi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kahko keeping moving, preventing Besi from controlling successfully.
Kahko wants to stand but Besi is controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Besi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Besi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Besi working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Kahko's thigh. Kahko counters though and makes it back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lionil Besi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Kahko gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Besi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kahko manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Besi manages to get himself to full guard.

Besi wants to get back to his feet but Kahko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kahko is looking to stand up but Besi won't let him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kahko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Besi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Besi wants to stand up but Kahko is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kahko displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Besi.
Kahko is looking to counter the offense by Besi and move into the clinch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Besi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Besi happy to just control the position for now.
Besi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Besi trying to control the position but Kahko is working away.

Besi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nice takedown defense from Besi. No joy for Kahko on that attempt.

Besi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kahko misses with some strikes from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Besi not doing much here.
Besi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kahko is squirming around, avoiding Besi's attempts to control the action.
Lionil Besi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Besi controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Besi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Besi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Janne Kahko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Lionil Besi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Besi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
