PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hop Sing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Wang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sing comes to the cage accompanied by Gettin Jiggy wit It. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hop Sing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Harry Wang!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wang is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sing.
Wang closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Hop Sing seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sing keeps the fight on the outside.
Sing fails to land with a series of punches.

Wang pushes Sing up against the cage in a clinch.
Sing can't break the clinch.
Wang controlling the action here for a moment.
Sing can't break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wang slowing the pace effectively.
Sing is trying to break the clinch but Wang has him pressed against the cage.
Wang tries for a takedown but Sing manages to get underhooks.

Sing blocks the elbow strike.
Wang trying to land knees to the body.
Sing tries to break the clinch but Wang is controlling the position.

Wang throws a knee to the head but misses.
Sing wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sing wants to get back to striking at distance but Wang won't allow it.
Wang has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sing avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Sing blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Sing avoiding damage as Wang throws knees to the body.
Wang prevents Sing from breaking the clinch.

Wang escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wang slips a jab and a cross from Sing.

Wang darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sing is looking for a sweep. Wang is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sing manages to get to full guard.

Sing working for a triangle but Wang defends it easily.
Sing is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Wang is looking to control Sing's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wang avoid being mounted?
Wang is trying to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sing wants to pass to mount but Wang is defending the position.
Sing uses his free foot to push down on Wang's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wang.
Sing pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Wang tries to reverse the position but Sing maintains control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sing has control of Wang's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wang regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Sing goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Wang turns into him and now he's in Sing's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hop Sing dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wang throws a head kick but Sing moves out of range.
Wang misses with a wild combination.
Sing swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Wang doesn't manage to clinch there - Sing circles away.
Sing lands a nice shot that snaps Wang's head back.
Wang wants to clinch.
Wang keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sing stuffs the takedown attempt from Wang. Wang gets slowly back to his feet.
Sing moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Sing tries to bum rush Wang with a series of wild strikes but Wang uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Wang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wang wants to stand but Sing has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Sing is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wang is defending against the submission attempts here by Sing.

Wang is looking to control Sing's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wang avoid being mounted?
Wang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sing. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sing wants to work for an arm triangle but Wang is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wang wants to get back to full guard.

Sing is looking for a kimura but Wang is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sing to get the leverage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sing seems to be looking for submissions.
Wang is looking to escape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Wang throws a series of punches but Sing moves out of range.
Wang cracks the inside of Sing's front leg.
Sing throws the left hand but Wang avoids the punch easily.
Sing misses with a combination

and Wang counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Wang.
Sing wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Wang has him pressed against the cage.
Wang pushes off an throws an elbow but Sing leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wang stalls.
Wang receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sing wants to break free but Wang has control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hop Sing will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Sing moves out of range of the body kick.
Sing lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Wang shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sing but Sing pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sing connects with a crisp jab.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Sing!
Sing throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Wang counters with a big head kick but Sing shrugs it off.
Sing displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Sing falls off balance throwing a combination

so Wang counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sing had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wang is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sing Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wang's back instead.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wang trying to control the position but Sing manages to sink in the hooks.

I really don't envy Wang right now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wang tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Sing swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Wang is now in Sing's guard. A big mistake from Sing there, giving up the dominant position!
Sing is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wang wants to control from the top but Sing keeps moving.

Sing looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sing escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wang working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Wang stands and steps away. Sing gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
No joy there for Wang, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sing misses with a double jab
and Wang counters with a good, hard body kick but Sing shrugs it off.
Wang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sing circles away.
Sing throws a left and a right that both miss

and Wang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sing's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wang stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wang tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Wang displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sing throws out the jab.

and Wang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sing's guard.

Wang connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sing momentarily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Harry Wang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hop Sing is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sing blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

And that's the end of the fight!
Harry Wang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sing has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
