Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thad Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boris Brown has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thad Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Boris Brown!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown tried to score with a low kick but Ortiz checks it.
Brown takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Brown wants to slow Ortiz down by chopping away at his legs.
As Brown tries to get set, Ortiz tries to push him back and clinch up but Brown manages to avoid the attempt.

Brown moves into the clinch.
Ortiz tries to circle away but Brown has him pinned against the cage.
Brown lands a knee to the head.
Brown throws an elbow but it's blocked.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ortiz stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Brown misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ortiz.
Ortiz is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Brown doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Ortiz prevents a body shot from Brown.
Brown lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Ortiz blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Ortiz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ortiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Brown manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Boris Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ortiz moves into the clinch successfully.
Ortiz's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Ortiz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Ortiz gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Brown misses with a knee strike.

Ortiz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Brown has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Brown checks a leg kick.
Nice defenses there by Ortiz.
Ortiz looks to clinch
and Brown connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Brown looks winded!
Ortiz scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ortiz tries to clinch but Brown moves out of range.
Some bone on bone action there as Brown checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Ortiz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brown.
Brown swinging wildly here.
Ortiz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Brown throws the kick towards the body but Ortiz avoids it.
Ortiz wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Ortiz staying out of range there.

Brown shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ortiz is trying to defend but Brown finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ortiz pushes Brown off looking to stand but Brown dives back in and keeps control.
Ortiz regains full guard. Nicely done.
Ortiz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ortiz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ortiz is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ortiz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A close round but Boris Brown will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Brown takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Brown swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ortiz seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Brown throws a right and a left that both miss.
As Brown looks to move away, Ortiz throws a big counter combo bu Brown just gets out of the way.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Brown throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Ortiz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Brown trying to control but Ortiz postures up.
Ortiz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Ortiz continues to stall.
Ortiz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Brown defending well though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ortiz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ortiz in particular looking to stall.
Brown blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ortiz.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ortiz connects with an inside leg kick.
Ortiz misses with a body kick.
Brown throws a counter combo.

Ortiz misses with a series of wild punches.
Ortiz lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ortiz.
Ortiz misses with an attempted mid kick.

Ortiz goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ortiz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brown circles away from the clinch attempt.
Brown unleashes a big counter combination but Ortiz bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Ortiz misses with an attempted mid kick.
Brown is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Ortiz with a body shot.
Thad Ortiz is winning the standup battle so far.
Brown looks to throw a body kick
and Ortiz counters with a one-two to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ortiz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thad Ortiz dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Ortiz lands a leg kick that knocks Brown off balance momentarily.
Thad Ortiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brown throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Brown is looking to score with low kicks.
Brown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Brown throws a leg kick but Ortiz moved away.
Ortiz throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Brown throws a big counter head kick but Ortiz avoids it with no problem.

Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brown darts in and clinches Ortiz up against the cage.

Ortiz decides to pull guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ortiz trying to control the position.

Ortiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily.

Ortiz has his foot on Brown's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brown works his way back into a safe position though.

Brown avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ortiz is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Brown rolls with it to try and escape but Ortiz cranks on the arm and Brown is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
