Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hobert Mays! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, William Dias! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Mays as Dias shoots in. Mays decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Mays thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mays gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Mays misses with a two punch combination.
Dias dives in for a single leg takedown but Mays sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. It looked like Mays was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Dias uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mays. Dias throws a head kick but Mays moves out of range.
Mays really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. No luck with that takedown attempt from Dias. Hobert Mays has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Dias. Dias looks winded! Dias throws a head kick but Mays moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Dias is fighting to break Mays's control of his arms but Mays is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Dias has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Rio. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Mays has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dias can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dias's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Dias has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mays is proving hard to escape from.

Dias got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mays has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dias has managed to get both his arms back between Mays's legs - danger averted. Mays looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mays preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mays is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Dias looking to sit in guard and control but Mays gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Mays is in close to Dias's body, working some short punches and elbows. Mays throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dias works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mays lands a couple of elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mays trying to control the position from guard on top but Dias is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mays lands a couple of elbows. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mays gets caught flat footed, as Dias shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Mays keeping full guard, as Dias tries to pass. Mays has his hands on Dias's head, controlling the position. Mays is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dias can do to turn this around? Mays controls Dias momentarily but Dias frees himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mays looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Dias tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mays paws at him with a jab and circles away. It looked like Mays was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dias. Dias is breathing heavily. Dias scores with a spinning back kick!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Dias tries to clinch up but Mays circles away and keeps his distance. Mays seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Dias tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Dias lands with a kick to the ribs.
Dias on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Mays shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dias is trying to defend but Mays finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Mays is working for a submission of some sort.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Dias is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mays scores with a couple of nice shots. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dias is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mays working some ground and pound from close in. Hobert Mays overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mays sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dias defending well though.

Dias swats away the attempt to clinch by Mays. Mays shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Mays is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mays is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Mays scoring with strikes to the body and head. Mays is keen to just control but Dias is a slippery customer. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mays lands a nice short elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ground and pound from Mays. Mays working the head and body with strikes. Mays is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mays is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dias sees it coming and defends easily. Mays stands up out of the half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Dias throws a head kick that misses. Dias throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Mays darts in and clinches Dias up against the cage. Dias keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mays's efforts to push away. Mays successfully pulls guard.
Mays escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dias gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mays has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dias being controlled here momentarily.
And that's the end of the fight! Hobert Mays showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mays, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
