Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Maure! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ian Mackaye! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maure moves out of range of the body kick. Maure keeps the fight on the outside. Maure tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Mackaye manages to circle out of the way. Mackaye has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Maure is landing a low percentage of strikes. Maure scores with a nice body kick.
Mackaye misses with a body shot.
Maure shoots in and gets a takedown into Mackaye's guard. Maure trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Maure postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Maure trying to control but Mackaye is working from the bottom. Maure drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mackaye looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mackaye looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mackaye! Maure lands a little strike from the bottom. Mackaye laying and praying for a moment but Maure takes advantage and regains half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mackaye throws a strike but Maure manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Mackaye tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dan Maure! Our winner, Dan Maure, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
