Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sonjay Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor McConnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Conor McConnell was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sonjay Jenkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Conor McConnell! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jenkins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McConnell, pushing him back against the cage. McConnell swings wildly with an uppercut but Jenkins uses good head movement to avoid it. McConnell swings away with an uppercut that misses.
McConnell tries to throw a body punch but Jenkins avoids it by throwing McConnell back against the cage. Jenkins is looking to take this one to the mat. McConnell lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. A right hand to the body from McConnell.
Jenkins is trying to pull guard but McConnell has him pressed against the cage. Jenkins breaks the clinch.

Jenkins displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. McConnell changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Jenkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sonjay Jenkins. That's going to take a lot out of him. McConnell is still on wobbly legs! Can Jenkins finish him? Jenkins manages to break the clinch.

That's going to sap some energy. McConnell throws a hook to the side of Jenkins's head but Jenkins sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Jenkins with a lazy takedown attempt and McConnell counters with a left to the body. McConnell jabbing away but nothing is landing. McConnell lands a nice looking body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round. McConnell lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fight stays on the outside here - Jenkins looks like he's thinking about clinching though. And an attempted straight right on the counter from McConnell! But no joy. Jenkins tries to clinch up. McConnell lands a nice shot to the body.
McConnell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jenkins was well out of range. Poor timing from McConnell. McConnell punishes Jenkins's body with a nice straight punch. Jenkins tries to score a power double leg takedown but McConnell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jenkins somewhat. Jenkins is looking to clinch but McConnell is avoiding it.
McConnell has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far. Sonjay Jenkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McConnell scores with a jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McConnell ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. McConnell connects with a crisp jab. Jenkins takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. McConnell scores with a decent looking hook. Jenkins walks into a left hand. Jenkins moves into the clinch. McConnell lands a right hand that snaps the head of Jenkins backwards. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as McConnell takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. McConnell wants to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Jenkins taking a breather. McConnell stops a takedown attempt from Jenkins.
Jenkins is trying to push McConnell away but McConnell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. McConnell fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

McConnell blocks an elbow strike. McConnell gets through Jenkins's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for McConnell. McConnell throws a head punch that misses. McConnell scores with a shot to the side of Jenkins's head. McConnell gets through Jenkins's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. McConnell misses with some punches.
Jenkins tries to break the clinch but McConnell is controlling the position. McConnell keeps control of Jenkins as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. McConnell lands a body shot. McConnell lands a body shot in the clinch.
McConnell effectively controlling the action here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Conor McConnell dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
McConnell clobbers Jenkins with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Jenkins takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
McConnell has been the more effective fighter overall so far. McConnell connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. McConnell jabs Jenkins to the body, keeping him at a distance. McConnell swings for the body but Jenkins moves out of range.
Jenkins gets a takedown into half guard. McConnell is looking to improve his position.
Jenkins is looking to take a break and control but McConnell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. McConnell is trying to get back to full guard. Jenkins is just content to waste time from the top position. McConnell takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. McConnell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jenkins manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Let's hope that McConnell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from McConnell. McConnell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's three minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jenkins is on top in guard.
McConnell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. McConnell sitting and controlling from the half guard. Jenkins is looking for a sweep. McConnell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McConnell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. More stalling from McConnell. Jenkins tries to roll over but McConnell keeps him under control. McConnell slows the pace down in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Yet more stalling tactics from McConnell. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Conor McConnell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Jenkins tries for a takedown but McConnell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. McConnell misses the jab. McConnell throws a looping overhand right but Jenkins ducks down to avoid it. Jenkins slips under a jab. McConnell misses the jab. McConnell throws a shot from downtown. Jenkins moves away and avoids it. McConnell works Jenkins's body with a nice hook. Jenkins moves out of range of the strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jenkins fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McConnell avoids it really well and circles away. Conor McConnell seems to be getting the better of the standup. McConnell looks to land a right hand but Jenkins moved out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins fails with the takedown and McConnell counters with a straight right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sonjay Jenkins. That's going to take a lot out of him. McConnell jabs Jenkins right on the nose. Jenkins blinks but takes it well. McConnell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jenkins tries to score a power double leg takedown but McConnell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jenkins somewhat. McConnell misses with a straight left. McConnell lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. McConnell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jenkins stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. McConnell feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jenkinss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Jenkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McConnell lands a nice shot that snaps Jenkins's head back.
Jenkins tries to clinch but McConnell moves out of range. Jenkins has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McConnell finds it's way round the side to connect with Jenkins's head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jenkins's hands are dropping dangerously low here and McConnell connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Jenkins scrambles back to his feet. Jenkins takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. McConnell lands an overhand right. A looping hook to the body misses from McConnell. Jenkins does a little dance to reset his feet. Jenkins throws a big counter combination but McConnell scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. McConnell's corner calls for a 1-2. McConnell obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Jenkins fails to land the takedown. Jenkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. McConnell slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. McConnell tests Jenkins's chin there with a solid looking shot. McConnell uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Nice uppercut lands for McConnell. That snapped Jenkins's head back.
Jenkins throws a series of punches but McConnell avoids them all with ease. McConnell looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Jenkins misses with a takedown attempt and McConnell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Jenkins closes the distance and clinches up with McConnell, looking for a takedown. Jenkins pushes McConnell against the cage but McConnell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Jenkins takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
McConnell lands a really nice looking cross but Jenkins seems unphased.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McConnell takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Conor McConnell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jenkins tries to score a power double leg takedown but McConnell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jenkins somewhat. McConnell lunges at Jenkins with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jenkins's hand. Jenkins pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. McConnell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Jenkins tries to clinch and McConnell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Sonjay Jenkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! McConnell bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Jenkins's head.
And that's the end of the fight! Conor McConnell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well McConnell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
