The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson defending well as Swindell loads up on a big left hand.
Swindell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Patterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Patterson lands in his opponent's guard.
Patterson trying to control but Swindell is working from the bottom.
Swindell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Swindell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Patterson tries to free his leg and advance position but Swindell is retaining full guard.
Patterson wants to control from the top but Swindell keeps moving.
Swindell is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Patterson trying to control but Swindell is working from the bottom.
Patterson prevents Swindell from getting back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Patterson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Patterson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Swindell wants to get back to his feet.
Patterson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Swindell stops Patterson from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Swindell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Patterson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Swindell is surviving well by controlling Patterson's body position as best he can.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Swindell defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Patterson.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Swindell tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Swindell looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Patterson is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Swindell defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Patterson has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Swindell.
Patterson looking for the choke but no joy.
Patterson sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Swindell taps out!
