Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kobe Romeo Paris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxwell Rubin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kobe Romeo Paris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Maxwell Rubin! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rubin misses the shot to the body. Paris avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Rubin takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Paris shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Paris blocks the body kick.
Paris swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Rubin throws a leg kick that is checked and Paris counters with a nice double leg into guard. Rubin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Paris throws a strike but Rubin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Paris seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paris is trying to keep Rubin in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Rubin thows a huge punch but Paris dodges it nicely.

Rubin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Paris is staying active underneath Rubin, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Rubin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Intelligent Design. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rubin wants to free his trapped foot but Paris is holding on for dear life with his legs. Paris is positioning himself well to prevent Rubin advancing to mount. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rubin lands a nice short elbow. Rubin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Paris is trying to get back to full guard. Rubin wants to work for an arm triangle but Paris is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Rubin moves nicely into side control. Rubin trying to control the action but Paris is working from the bottom. Rubin is chipping away with strikes.
Rubin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Rubin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rubin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Paris down.

Paris throws a left and a right that both miss
and Rubin counters with a nice body shot. Rubin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Paris counters with an outside leg kick.

Rubin shoots for a double leg takedown but Paris sprawls well. He's pushed Rubin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Paris attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Rubin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Paris defends well and Rubin ends up having to push Paris into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kobe Romeo Paris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maxwell Rubin. Paris misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rubin.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Paris blocks a body shot from Rubin. Paris has clasped his hands together around Rubin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Paris cracks Rubin with a big elbow.

Kobe Romeo Paris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Rubin is looking for a sweep. Paris working away. Rubin tries to improve position but can't. The strikes coming from Paris are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Paris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rubin is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Paris thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Paris working over Rubin with some ground and pound. Rubin looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Paris is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rubin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Paris. Paris is working for a submission of some sort.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rubin wants to get back to full guard. Paris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rubin keeps working. Paris throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Rubin gets full guard. Paris trying to control but Rubin is working from the bottom. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Paris missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Paris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Paris thows a body kick. Rubin tries to catch it but that hurt him. Rubin jabs at Paris's body. Rubin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paris paws at him with a jab and circles away. A counter left hand to the body from Paris misses its target. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rubin lands with a kick to the ribs.

Rubin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Paris wants to take the fight to the mat but Rubin manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kobe Romeo Paris. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rubin tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Paris goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rubin prevents it.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Paris is trying to get back to full guard. Rubin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Rubin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Paris wants to get back to full guard but Rubin has mounted him! Rubin punishing his opponent with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rubin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Paris can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

It looks like Kobe Romeo Paris has been cut. Rubin looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Paris taking shots to the head. Rubin is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Paris is surviving well by controlling Rubin's body position as best he can. Paris tries to reverse the position but Rubin maintains control. Rubin pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paris is desperately trying to improve his position but Rubin has a good base and remains in mount. Rubin postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Paris looks a forlorn figure.

Paris is rocked! Rubin working away from the top, dropping strikes. Oh Paris is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Rubin drops a big elbow. That's hurt Paris! More shots from Rubin and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Maxwell Rubin very nearly forgot to thank Four Aces Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
