Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mika Saarenpää! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Kake Nyrkki! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saarenpää scores with a jab to the body. Nyrkki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Saarenpää swats him away and circles back towards the center. Nyrkki scores with a hook to the body. Saarenpää takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Saarenpää has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Saarenpää throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Nyrkki throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Saarenpää counters with a stiff right hand. Saarenpää uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nyrkki. Kake Nyrkki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Saarenpää turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Nyrkki swings away with a body shot that misses
and Saarenpää makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Nyrkki misses with a looping left. A jab lands there for Nyrkki. Saarenpää takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Saarenpää connects with a jab.
It looks like Kake Nyrkki has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Saarenpää throws a wild body kick that Nyrkki sees coming a mile off. Saarenpää moves out of range of the body kick. Nyrkki takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Saarenpää works the jab nicely. Saarenpää has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Nyrkki finds it's way round the side to connect with Saarenpää's head. Nyrkki forces Saarenpää back against the cage and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saarenpää lands a left hand.
A head punch on the inside from Nyrkki fails to land. Saarenpää throws a punch but it's blocked by Nyrkki. Nyrkki tries to throw a body punch but Saarenpää avoids it by throwing Nyrkki back against the cage. Nyrkki misses with a short punch on the inside. Nyrkki goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Nyrkki tries to score a body lock takedown but Saarenpää shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Saarenpää blocks an uppercut.
Nyrkki misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Nyrkki fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Nyrkki misses with a hook from the clinch. A short right hand to the side of the head by Saarenpää. Saarenpää misses with a punch to the body.
Nyrkki throws a head punch that misses. Nyrkki swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Saarenpää is pressed up against the cage. Nyrkki has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Saarenpää down to the mat. Saarenpää avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Nyrkki closes the distance and lands a one-two. Nyrkki throws a leg kick that is checked and Saarenpää counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Saarenpää jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A good leg kick by Saarenpää.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nyrkki throws a sloppy head kick and Saarenpää counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Nyrkki swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Saarenpää counters with a nice right hand that sends Nyrkki toppling to the canvas! Nyrkki scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Saarenpää finish him?!
Nyrkki is rocked! Saarenpää moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Nyrkki is still on wobbly legs! Can Saarenpää finish him? Nyrkki lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Saarenpää circles away quickly and effectively. A kick lands to the mid section there for Saarenpää. Nyrkki looks winded! Saarenpää connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Saarenpää turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Nyrkki seems to have recovered his senses. Nyrkki moves to clinch but Saarenpää breaks away and Saarenpää makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Nyrkki blocks the body kick.
Saarenpää slips a straight right by Nyrkki. Mika Saarenpää is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nyrkki chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Saarenpää can pounce on him.
Saarenpää fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Nyrkki. Saarenpää scores with the left hand. Nyrkki knows he should have avoided that one.
That has opened up Kake Nyrkki's cut even more. Nyrkki moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Nyrkki wants to clinch and Saarenpää counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nyrkki tries to clinch but Saarenpää is having none of it. Saarenpää throws a wild body kick that Nyrkki sees coming a mile off. Nyrkki looks to land a right hand but Saarenpää moved out of range. Nyrkki throws an overhand right that lands on Saarenpää's shoulder, as Saarenpää tries to avoid the shot. Nyrkki lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nyrkki doesn't manage to clinch there - Saarenpää circles away.
A little feinted left hand from Saarenpää on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. A nice leg kick lands there from Saarenpää. Nyrkki tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Saarenpää cracks the inside of Nyrkki's front leg. Saarenpää keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Nyrkki throws a body punch but Saarenpää moves out of range. Saarenpää is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Nyrkki shoots in looking for a takedown but Saarenpää manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nyrkki's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Mika Saarenpää has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kake Nyrkki. Saarenpää lands a slapping body shot.

Saarenpää cracks Nyrkki with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Crunch! Saarenpää slams his shin into Nyrkki's torso.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Saarenpää scoring well with a low kick there.
Saarenpää cracks Nyrkki with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Nyrkki looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Saarenpää finish him?
Nyrkki walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Saarenpää swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!
