Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ron Shaffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Homero Cavalcante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ron Shaffer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Homero Cavalcante! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cavalcante is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Shaffer's half guard. Shaffer is looking to control Cavalcante's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shaffer avoid being mounted? Cavalcante slows the pace down in half guard. It looks like Cavalcante might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cavalcante thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shaffer's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cavalcante is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Shaffer trying to hold on to Cavalcante's head to control him but Cavalcante postures up.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Shaffer gets a double leg takedown into Cavalcante's guard. Cavalcante pulls Shaffer in close to his closed guard and prevents Shaffer from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante working for submissions but it's allowed Shaffer to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Shaffer preventing the sweep. Shaffer throwing strikes from guard but Cavalcante blocks nicely. Cavalcante trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Cavalcante is trying to control the position but Shaffer postures up. Cavalcante is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Shaffer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cavalcante to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Shaffer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shaffer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cavalcante throwing strikes from guard but Shaffer blocks nicely. Shaffer keeping moving, preventing Cavalcante from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Homero Cavalcante dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cavalcante shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cavalcante was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cavalcante remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Shaffer struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cavalcante looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Shaffer prevents Cavalcante from moving into mount. Shaffer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cavalcante throws a strike but Shaffer avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Cavalcante tries to free his leg and advance position but Shaffer is retaining full guard. Cavalcante is still trying to improve position. Cavalcante decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shaffer, up you get! Shaffer gets caught napping as Cavalcante dives in and scores a takedown. Shaffer manages to retain guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Shaffer looking to control.
Shaffer looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cavalcante puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Shaffer wants to control the action here but instead Cavalcante manages to pass to full mount! Shaffer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cavalcante controlling the pace for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante landing punches. Cavalcante prevents Shaffer from getting the reversal. Shaffer manages to regain half guard. Good work. Cavalcante slows the pace down in half guard. Cavalcante moves nicely into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shaffer misses with a strike from the bottom. Shaffer can't do much from the bottom here. Shaffer trying his best to control but Cavalcante has mounted him. Shaffer is looking to improve his position but Cavalcante isn't that keen on the idea. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cavalcante has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Cavalcante jumps guard and drags Shaffer to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Cavalcante pulls Shaffer in close to prevent any damage. Homero Cavalcante has got the better of the ground game so far. Cavalcante bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shaffer's guard.
Shaffer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cavalcante is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Shaffer trying to keep a closed guard but Cavalcante is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cavalcante seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cavalcante is taking a breather. Shaffer says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Cavalcante's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Cavalcante missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Cavalcante thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Cavalcante gets a double leg takedown into Shaffer's guard. Shaffer has his foot on Cavalcante's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cavalcante works his way back into a safe position though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cavalcante has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shaffer is proving hard to escape from. Ron Shaffer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Homero Cavalcante is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Cavalcante content to stall in guard here.
And that's the end of the fight! Homero Cavalcante comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Cavalcante has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
