PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cok Chestnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimi Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chestnar comes to the cage accompanied by Detachable Penis. Powell is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 8 Mile. Jimi Powell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cok Chestnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimi Powell!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell misses with a body kick.
Powell throws a lazy right hand but Chestnar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Powell takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Chestnar looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Powell drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Powell working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Chestnar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Powell off and has taken his back!
Chestnar tries to keep control of the position but Powell is staying busy.
Chestnar is not going to allow Powell to sit and survive in this position.
Powell felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Chestnar biding his time, looking for the opening.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Chestnar.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chestnar throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Chestnar is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Chestnar gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Chestnar gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Chestnar apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Powell misses with a low kick.
Chestnar feinted with a counter takedown.
Chestnar avoids the body shot from Powell.

Chestnar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chestnar is on top in guard.

Powell has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Chestnar has passed into side control.
Chestnar tries to score with some ground and pound. Powell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Chestnar sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Powell is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chestnar wants to control but Powell is keeping him busy.
Chestnar misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Chestnar working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Chestnar trying to control the action but Powell is working from the bottom.
Chestnar controls the position.
Powell is trying to get back to half guard.
Powell keeps trying to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chestnar in side control, throwing shots but Powell defends.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chestnar cracks Powell with a big elbow.
Powell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chestnar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Chestnar wants to control but Powell is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chestnar fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The strikes coming from Chestnar are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Chestnar working away.
Chestnar tries to score with some ground and pound. Powell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Powell regains half guard, as Chestnar was trying to land strikes.
Powell is trying to maintain the position but Chestnar is very close to passing his half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chestnar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Chestnar working Powell over with strikes.
Chestnar working the head and body with strikes.
Chestnar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.
Chestnar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Chestnar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Chestnar is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cok Chestnar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Powell bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Chestnar fails with a takedown attempt.
Chestnar getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Powell wants to slow Chestnar down by chopping away at his legs.
Chestnar shoots for a takedown but Powell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jab, jab by Powell - just one landing.
Chestnar jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cok Chestnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Powell throws a good cross that connects.
Chestnar scores with the left hand. Powell knows he should have avoided that one.
A big left from Powell misses.
Powell swinging wildly here.
Chestnar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Powell circles away.
Powell throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cok Chestnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Powell on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Powell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Chestnar circles away quickly and effectively.
Powell pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Chestnar shoots and misses
and Chestnar takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Powell, as that shot connected.
Powell fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Chestnar is out of range.
Chestnar misses with a looping right.
Powell doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Chestnar lands with an overhand left.
Chestnar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Some bone on bone action there as Chestnar checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Chestnar drops down looking for a counter takedown but Powell sprawls and moves away.
Chestnar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Powell.
Powell looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Powell scores with a nice right hand.
Powell ducks under a wild hook from Chestnar.
Powell misses with a looping right.
Powell throws an overhand right that lands on Chestnar's shoulder, as Chestnar tries to avoid the shot.
Powell's jab looks to have found its range, popping Chestnar under the eye.


Chestnar is rocked!
Chestnar switches off momentarily and Powell cracks him with a monster right hand! Chestnar topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Powell dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Powell!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jimi Powell!
During a confident post fight interview, Jimi Powell thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
