PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksander Krosnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sanchez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Not Afraid - Eminen. Aleksander Krosnov will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Krosnov to the ground. Sanchez is now in Krosnov's guard. Krosnov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sanchez stacks Krosnov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sanchez! Krosnov is trying to get back to half guard. Sanchez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. A control attempt from Krosnov but he's now mounted! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sanchez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Krosnov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Krosnov tries to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away. Sanchez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Krosnov is surviving well by controlling Sanchez's body position as best he can. Krosnov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanchez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Krosnov tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Krosnov might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sanchez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Krosnov has left one of his arms exposed and Sanchez doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Krosnov screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Diego Sanchez! Diego Sanchez retains his super heavyweight title! A relieved looking Diego Sanchez thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
