The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rice has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nine fails to pull the fight into his guard.

It looks like Resial Nine has been cut. A head punch on the inside from Rice fails to land. Nine blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rice trying to land knees to the body.

Rice fails in his attempt to clinch. Nine should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Rice tries to close the distance and clinch but Nine swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nine jabbing away but nothing is landing. Resial Nine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nine throws the left hand but Rice avoids the punch easily. Rice is looking to control Nine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rice avoid being mounted? Nine working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Rice's thigh. Rice counters though and makes it back to full guard. Nine passes into half guard. Nine is looking to advance position but Rice won't allow it. Nine wants to take a breather but Rice is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nine is pressing down on Rice's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rice is holding on for now. Rice knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nine on the ground. Rice is refusing to be controlled, as Nine sits in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nine looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rice is fending him off so far but Nine persists. Nope, Rice circles away and we're back to standing. Rice ducks under a wild hook from Nine. Nine fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rice sprawls well initially but Nine persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rice is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nine's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nine's back! You can see the frustration on Nine's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Nine prevents Rice from getting a body triangle. Nine just trying to survive but Rice is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Nine is really stuck here.
Rice keeps control of the position easily here as Nine tries to buck him off.
Nine manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rice's guard. Nice work there by Nine.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Nine passes Rice's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rice tries to get to full guard but Nine has control of the leg. Nine tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rice knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Rice is defending against the submission attempts here by Nine.
Rice is trying to stand up here but Nine is controlling him well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Resial Nine will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Resial Nine's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rice looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Nine throws an elbow but Rice slips to the side and avoids it well. Nine tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Nine is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rice is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Nine thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rice regains half guard there - taking advantage of Nine's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Nine is looking to take a break and control but Rice is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nine is pressing down on Rice's thigh, looking to free his foot. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Rice! Rice tries to reverse the position but Nine maintains control.
