Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Warner Dale! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Catalan! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dale shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Catalan swinging wildly here.
Dale attempts a counter takedown but Catalan avoids it well and moves away. Catalan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Catalan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Catalan prevents Dale from escaping the position. Catalan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dale keeps working. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Catalan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dale has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Catalan but great work by Dale.
That's one minute gone in the round. Catalan tries to buck Dale off but Dale is having none of it. Dale really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Catalan wants to control but Dale postures up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Catalan can do anything to dispel that myth. Dale has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Dale fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Catalan rushes Dale and presses him up against the cage. Dale tries to circle away but Catalan has him pinned against the cage. Dale looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Dale is trying to pull guard but Catalan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warner Dale. That's going to take a lot out of him. Catalan breaks the clinch.

It looks like Warner Dale has been cut. Dale throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Catalan's waist but Catalan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dale off to one side. Catalan rushes Dale and presses him up against the cage. Dale looking to stall.
Dale has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Catalan uses from the top position. Catalan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Dale has his foot on Catalan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Catalan works his way back into a safe position though. Catalan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Catalan is looking to advance position but Dale has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Catalan tries to reverse the position but Dale maintains control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dale manages to capitalize on a mistake by Catalan to take his back! Dale gets his hands free as Catalan looks to control. Catalan tries to escape the position.

Dale tries to score a power double leg takedown but Catalan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dale somewhat. Catalan is looking for the big counter here. Dale fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Catalan drives through and clinches with Dale against the cage.
Dale is looking to break free of the clinch but Catalan has double underhooks. Dale jumps guard but Catalan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. and Dale counters with a nice double leg into guard. Catalan wants to hit a switch here but Dale passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Catalan there! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Dale cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Catalan reaches up to try and control the position but Dale seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Catalan rolls and tries to escape and now Dale has his back!

Dale avoiding Catalan 's attempts to control his hands. Dale will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Catalan tries to escape but Dale has the hooks in and won't let him break free. This has been an exciting period of action! Catalan is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Dale is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
That's three minutes gone in the round. I really don't envy Catalan right now.
Catalan wants to control his opponent's hands but Dale gets his hands free. Warner Dale overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Dale patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Dale controlling well, preventing Catalan from escaping the position.

A head kick misses from Catalan. Catalan rushes Dale and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Dale digs a right hand into Catalan's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Catalan's gas tank. Catalan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nice sprawl there from Catalan as Dale shoots in. Dale fails with a takedown attempt. Dale shoots and misses and Catalan counters with a left and a right that stings Dale. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warner Dale. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Catalan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Catalan walks away with a smile on his face. Dale gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mark Catalan seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Dale is rocked! Catalan rushes Dale and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Oh Dale is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Dale jumps guard but Catalan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Catalan wants the takedown. Dale is fighting it off but Catalan persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dale's guard against the cage. Catalan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Catalan looking to pass the guard. Dale pushes Catalan off and gets back to his feet.
Dale seems to have got his legs back now. Catalan throws a low kick but Dale avoids it. Catalan clinches up with Dale and pushes him back against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Catalan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Catalan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Catalan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dale's efforts to push away. Catalan taking a breather.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Catalan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Catalan throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Catalan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Catalan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Catalan manages to end up in side control. Catalan wants to control but Dale is keeping him busy. Dale striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Catalan in side control, just content to control the action for now. The strikes coming from Catalan are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
