PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jonah Solis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonah Solis had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonah Solis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Scott!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scott shoots in and gets a takedown into Solis's guard.

Scott stands up and waves to Solis to follow him.

Scott gets tackled into the cage by Solis. Solis maintains the clinch.
Scott has Solis pressed against the cage.

Scott is trying to trip Solis. He has hold of a leg but Solis is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Scott persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Scott passes Solis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Solis manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Scott keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Scott tightens his grip and picks Solis up, before dumping him to the ground. Solis manages to land in guard.
Solis keeping moving, preventing Scott from controlling successfully.
Solis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Solis wants to get back to his feet but Scott is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Solis has a closed guard, preventing Scott from standing up.

Solis scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Solis shoots for a double leg takedown but Scott sprawls well. He's pushed Solis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Solis clinches.

Scott ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Scott no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Solis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Solis won't allow Scott to sweep him here.
Solis is fighting to break Scott's control of his arms but Scott is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scott is looking for a triangle but Solis pushes his legs off easily.
Scott is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Solis won't allow Scott to sweep him here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Scott bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Solis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Scott off and has taken his back!

Scott rolls, trying to escape but Solis keeps control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Solis throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Scott trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Scott looks winded!

Solis has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Scott has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Scott has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Solis.
Scott is keeping busy.
I really don't envy Scott right now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Scott trying to control the position but Solis manages to sink in the hooks.

Scott rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Scott is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Solis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Scott doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Solis.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jonah Solis will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Scott instigates a clinch.

Scott has Solis pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Scott pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Solis tumbling to the mat - Scott dives into Solis's guard.
Scott wants to control from the top but Solis keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott is looking to advance position but Solis has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Scott is trying to escape the mount.
Scott sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Solis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Scott is just riding it out for now. Solis eventually gives up the hold.
Solis drops an elbow to the side of Scott's head.
Lee Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Scott tries to roll over but Solis keeps him under control.

Scott is doing well to control the position and prevent Solis from advancing to side control.
Scott is refusing to be controlled, as Solis sits in half guard.

Solis seems to be looking for submissions.
Scott holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Solis throws a head kick that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Scott closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Solis quickly recovers to half guard.
Solis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Solis wants to sweep here but Scott controlling him for the moment.
Solis wants to stand and escape but Scott is having none of it.
Solis trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Solis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Solis is looking to stand up but Scott isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Scott showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Solis looks to land a combination. Scott sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Solis blocks the body kick.
Scott throws a predictable looking body shot
and Solis counters with a series of strikes. Scott will be more careful next time no doubt.
Solis tries to clinch but Scott is having none of it.

Scott closes the distance and clinches.

Scott gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Scott seems to be working for a kimura but Solis defends the submission attempt.

Scott stands up and beckons Solis to join him on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Scott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Solis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Scott's guard.

Solis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Scott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Solis manages to get himself to full guard.

Scott takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Solis throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Solis looking for a sweep. Not yet Solis, not yet.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Solis manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Scott pulls Solis into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Solis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Solis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Scott is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Solis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Scott wants to sweep but no luck.
Solis scoring with punches to the head and body.
Solis lands a couple of elbows.
Scott pulls Solis in to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Lee Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Solis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Scott napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Solis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Scott, who protects the arm well.
Scott is trying to control Solis's posture but Solis avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jonah Solis.
I think Solis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
