The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mentagawa with a nice cross.
Calderwood misses with a head kick.
Jon Calderwood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Mentagawa counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Calderwood is trying to keep Mentagawa in close.
Mentagawa is pushing down on Calderwood's leg trying to pass to half guard. Calderwood is fighting to maintain full guard but Mentagawa has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mentagawa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Calderwood defends it well.
Calderwood is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mentagawa's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mentagawa's back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Calderwood's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Calderwood wants to control the position but Mentagawa frees himself and scrambles - Calderwood manages to regain control in side control.
