Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elliot Hopper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luke English! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! English shoots for a takedown but Hopper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Hopper misses with a two punch combination.
Hopper tests English's chin there with a solid looking shot.
It looks like Luke English has been cut. Hopper gets caught flat footed, as English shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Hopper trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Hopper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hopper is trying to control the position but English postures up. Hopper looking to hit a scissor sweep but English is one step ahead there. Hopper working for submissions but it's allowed English to get to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hopper manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! English wants to control from the top but Hopper keeps moving. Hopper is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopper is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. English pushes down on Hopper's leg and manages to get into half guard. English not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Hopper is trying to get back to full guard. English trying to mount his opponent but Hopper defends it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. English prevents Hopper from improving his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. English is thwarting Hopper's attempts to control the position. Hopper knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for English on the ground.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. English misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice cross by Hopper. Hopper lands a body shot.
English looks gassed! Hopper lands a right hook to the body.
Hopper throws a good cross that connects.
Hopper lands an uppercut, right on the button! English tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.
