Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Gouveia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitor Gouveia has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John West! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Gouveia! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! West decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. West is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
West drops an elbow to the side of Gouveia's head. Gouveia wants to get back to his feet. West is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gouveia defends it well. Gouveia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with West. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. West is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gouveia sees it coming and defends easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. West thows a huge punch but Gouveia dodges it nicely.

West throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Gouveia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but West manages to avoid it. Gouveia looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gouveia looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Gouveia tries to clinch but fails miserably and West counters with a takedown into side control. West could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. West connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Gouveia some visible discomfort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gouveia is not in a great position here, taking some shots. West is trying to get an arm triangle but Gouveia is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. West tries to score with some ground and pound. Gouveia controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. West is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gouveia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Gouveia defending against the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. West landing strikes. West swings around for an armbar but Gouveia sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into West's guard. West is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. West is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. West not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gouveia gets to his feet - West follows without any prompting. No luck for West with that takedown attempt. Vitor Gouveia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gouveia misses with a few strikes there.
West wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Gouveia fails with an attempt to clinch.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gouveia checks a leg kick. No luck with that takedown attempt from West. Gouveia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John West is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. West closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. West scores with punches from side control. Gouveia is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, West asserts his dominance and retains side control. West tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no West has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! That's one minute gone in the round. West thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. West is trying to get an arm triangle but Gouveia is defending well. West goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gouveia rolls with the submission and now he's on top in West's guard! Nice work there by Gouveia! Gouveia has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of West is proving hard to escape from.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gouveia wants to stand and escape but instead West has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as West accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. John West overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. West postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Gouveia wants to stand but West is controlling the position. West scoring with some ground and pound.

West drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gouveia manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now West has Gouveia in his guard. Gouveia is looking to stand up but West won't let him. Gouveia won't allow West to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. West is working an open guard so Gouveia takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Gouveia tries to clinch up. West misses with the combination.
Despite the aggression on Gouveia's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Gouveia lands a nice looking body kick. Gouveia lands a left and a right that send West crashing to the mat, dazed. Gouveia thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
West is rocked!
It looks like John West has been cut. West wants to stay close but Gouveia steps back to make room for something. West seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Gouveia and West drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!
