Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Evans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pedro Lopez! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lopez shoots in looking for a takedown. Evans tries to sprawl out of it but Lopez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Evans manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Evans throws a chopping leg kick but Lopez manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Evans tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lopez was well out of range. Poor timing from Evans. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lopez lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Evans has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Evans and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. A looping hook to the body misses from Evans. Lopez does a little dance to reset his feet. Lopez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Evans defends it well. The fighters circling - Evans throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Lopez moves out of range of the body kick from Evans.
Lopez throws out a leg kick but Evans moves out of range and Lopez only half commits. Evans tried to counter with a leg kick but Lopez avoided it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Evans leaves Lopez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Lopez wants to slow Evans down by chopping away at his legs. Nick Evans is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Evans comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Lopez throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Evans appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Evans misses with a low kick as Lopez jumps back. A low kick from Evans is predictable there and Lopez counters with a nice double leg into guard. Evans is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Evans keeping moving, preventing Lopez from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez stays in close to Evans's body and controls the position. Lopez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Evans looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Evans looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Evans! Evans is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lopez's shoulder. That is not cool. Evans is looking to take a break and control but Lopez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. You can see the frustration on Lopez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez is trying to improve his position. Evans wants to control but Lopez is keeping him busy. The strikes coming from Evans are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Lopez is looking to regain half guard here but Evans keeps moving and retains side control. Lopez keeps trying to improve his position. Lopez manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lopez trying to mount his opponent but Evans defends it. Lopez wants to work for an arm triangle but Evans is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lopez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lopez wants to take a breather but Evans is having none of it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Evans tries to roll over but Lopez keeps him under control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Pedro Lopez will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Lopez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Evans lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

A leg kick checked by Evans. Evans is looking to counter with a body kick. Lopez swings away with a leg kick that misses. Evans throws a head kick that misses. Evans gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Nick Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lopez shoots for a takedown but Evans saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Evans lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. A chopping leg kick lands by Evans. Evans looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Lopez avoids a kick to the body.
Lopez changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. A bone on bone clash there as Evans blocks the leg kick.
Lopez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nick Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pedro Lopez.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Evans lands a jab to Lopez's midsection. Lopez tries to land a leg kick but Evans saw it coming and moves away.
Evans looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Lopez shoots in but Evans avoids the takedown attempt easily. It appears Evans was looking to counter with a kick there. Lopez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Evans. Evans misses with a body kick. Evans throws a body shot but no joy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez throws a leg kick but Evans checks it. Evans is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lopez can do to turn this around? Evans comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Evans misses with a head kick.
Lopez swings away with a leg kick that misses. Evans throws a sloppy head kick and Lopez moves out of range easily. Lopez feints the counter takedown. Lopez blocks a head kick by Evans.
Lopez gets a double leg takedown into Evans's guard. Lopez wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving. Lopez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Evans dives on top into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Evans wants to control from the top but Lopez keeps moving. Evans has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Evans content to stall in guard here. Lopez looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Evans is defending well. Lopez quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Evans has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Lopez celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
