PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Olin Raymond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sandro Font (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Olin Raymond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sandro Font!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raymond misses with a low kick.
No joy there for Raymond, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Font pushes Raymond up against the cage in a clinch.

Font manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Font is looking for a triangle here but Raymond uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Raymond avoids the strikes from the bottom by Font.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Font is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Font's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Raymond could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Font is trying to work for a sweep but Raymond has mounted him!

Font avoids a series of strikes thrown by Raymond.

Raymond misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Font keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Font throwing hammer fists to the chest of Raymond. What's that going to do exactly?
Font holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Raymond tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Font regains half guard.

Font tries to get to full guard but Raymond has control of the leg.
Raymond throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Raymond looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Font with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Font is trying to stand up here but Raymond is controlling him well.

Font with the active half guard here but Raymond passes nicely into side control.

Raymond throwing shots but missing, from side control.
An elbow from Raymond crashes against the mat.
The ground and pound from Raymond seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Font misses with a combination
and Raymond makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Raymond fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Font has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Font shoots in and drives through. Raymond sprawls well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Raymond swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Raymond lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Font has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Font jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Raymond walks away with a smile on his face. Font gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Font closes the distance and clinches.
Font lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Olin Raymond has been cut.
Font is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Raymond changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Font fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Font closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Font shoots and misses
and Raymond counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Font thinking.
Raymond connects with a solid leg kick.

Raymond tries to keep at a distance but Font has taken the fight into the clinch.
Font keeps control of Raymond as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The crowd are getting on Font's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Raymond wants a takedown.

Raymond tries for a takedown but Font manages to get underhooks.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Raymond as Font tries to tie him up.
Raymond is trying to drag Font to the mat but Font just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Font breaks the clinch.

Raymond closes the distance and pushes Font back into the cage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Font successfully pulls guard.
Raymond postures up.

Font is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Raymond defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Font is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Font has momentary wrist control but Raymond slips an elbow through the middle.

Font has his foot on Raymond's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Raymond works his way back into a safe position though.

Raymond passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Olin Raymond overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Font is looking for a sweep. Raymond is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Raymond thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Raymond is looking to stall here but Font recovers full guard.
Raymond distracts Font with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Sandro Font seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Font has closed the distance and engaged Raymond in a clinch.
Raymond is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Font can do to turn this around?
Raymond gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Font.

Sandro Font showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Font. Raymond does a little dance to reset his feet.
Raymond leaves Font with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Font fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Raymond has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Raymond looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Olin Raymond is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Raymond lands with a thumping leg kick.

Font shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Font is looking to take a break and control but Raymond is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Font looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Raymond might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Font is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Raymond defends it well.
Raymond is staying active underneath Font, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Raymond on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Raymond tries to keep at a distance but Font has taken the fight into the clinch.
Font lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Font managing to block the knees to the body from Raymond.
Raymond tries to pull guard but Font won't allow it.
Raymond tries to work over Font's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Raymond tries to pull guard but Font holds him up against the cage and eventually Raymond drops back down to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Raymond lands a takedown into guard.
Font controls Raymond momentarily but Raymond frees himself.
Font is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Font utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Font pulls Raymond in to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Font has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Font working a defensive guard but Raymond manages to pass into side control anyway.
Font gets back to half guard.
Raymond is trying to control. Font wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Font wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

I would just about give that final round to Sandro Font.
I think Font has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
