PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Leek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shorty Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shorty Carter will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Leek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Shorty Carter!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter throws a combination that misses
and Leek counters with a one-two to the body.
Leek throws a solid leg kick but Carter takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Leek.
Carter is looking for the big counter here.

Leek fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carter, pushing him back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Carter's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Carter wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Leek has him pressed against the cage.
Carter tries to pull guard but Leek won't allow it.
Carter throws a head punch that misses.

Leek escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Carter misses with a head kick.
Leek is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Carter.
Carter throws a right and a left that Leek avoids nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leek closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carter to the mat! Carter manages to get full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Leek controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Leek seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carter for as long as he can get away with.
Carter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leek is one step ahead there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leek's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Leek stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Leek not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Carter is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Leek gets a takedown into half guard.

Leek is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Carter blocking the ground and pound attempt from Leek.
Carter is trying to stand up here but Leek is controlling him well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

BOOM! Leek connects with a massive shot to the dome!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Leek closes the distance and clinches.


It looks like Shorty Carter has been cut.
Carter is looking to break free of the clinch but Leek has double underhooks.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Leek jumps into guard, dragging Carter to the mat.
Carter throwing strikes but missing.
Carter wants to stand and escape but instead Leek has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Leek is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carter can do to turn this around?

Leek decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Carter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Carter unleashes a big counter combination but Leek bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Carter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Leek pushing down on Carter's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Leek escapes and gets back to his feet.
Carter moves in looking to clinch but Leek pushes him off.
Leek is looking to counter the offense by Carter and move into the clinch.
Leek throws a sloppy head kick
and Carter counters with a straight right hand.
Carter scores with a three punch combo!
Leek shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carter as he avoids it easily.
As Leek backs off Carter throws a huge counter combo but Leek manages to avoid it all.
Carter lands a high kick!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carter lands a jab to Leek's midsection.

Leek shoots in looking for a takedown. Carter tries to sprawl out of it but Leek keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Leek. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carter connects with a crisp jab.
A punch combination from Leek misses.
Carter comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Carter scores with a nice right hand.
Carter misses with a takedown attempt - Leek sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Leek throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Carter tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Leek is in Carter's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Leek lands a couple of digs.
Leek controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

David Leek overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That was a close second round but I would say that David Leek will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Leek throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carter was covering up waiting for the punch and Leek finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Carter wants to control the position but Leek says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Leek looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Carter is trying to get back to full guard.
Leek content to control rather than advance.
Leek throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Leek controlling the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Leek gets the takedown into side control.
Carter is trying to improve his position.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Leek. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee asks Leek politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Leek prefers to stall for the moment though.

Carter is looking for a sweep.
Carter is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Leek has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Carter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leek passes Carter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Leek showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leek, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
