Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jules Winnfield! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Harlan! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harlan throws a series of punches but Winnfield avoids them all with ease. Harlan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Winnfield looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Winnfield is looking for a sweep. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. An elbow from Harlan crashes against the mat.
Harlan decides to stand back up. Harlan moves in looking to clinch but Winnfield pushes him off. Harlan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Winnfield is trying to control the position but Harlan postures up. Winnfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harlan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Winnfield trying to control the position.
Harlan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Winnfield has his foot on Harlan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Harlan works his way back into a safe position though. Harlan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Winnfield's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harlan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Winnfield keeping moving, preventing Harlan from controlling successfully. Harlan wants to stand but Winnfield has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Winnfield looking for a guillotine here but Harlan defends easily.
Harlan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Harlan trying to control the position from guard on top but Winnfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Winnfield is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Harlan is trying to maintain the position but Winnfield is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Winnfield is looking to advance position but Harlan won't allow it. Harlan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Winnfield missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Winnfield winds up and cracks Harlan with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Harlan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Winnfield. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Winnfield is looking for a kimura here.
Winnfield is breathing heavily. Winnfield trying to control the action but Harlan is working from the bottom.

Harlan keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Harlan is not content to let Winnfield control the position. Harlan gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Winnfield is looking to advance position but Harlan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Winnfield wants to control but Harlan is having none of it. Winnfield is trying desperately to improve position. Harlan trying to control but he's not successful this time. Winnfield wants to control but Harlan is having none of it. Harlan tries to control but Winnfield wriggling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jimmy Harlan will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Harlan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Winnfield can't do much from the bottom here. Winnfield sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Winnfield is looking to control Harlan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Winnfield avoid being mounted? Winnfield is pressing down on Harlan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Winnfield has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Harlan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Winnfield can't keep his opponent in guard - Harlan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harlan trying to control the pace. Harlan throwing shots but Winnfield is blocking nicely. Harlan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Winnfield doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Harlan. Winnfield is not content to let Harlan control the position. Winnfield actively working from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Harlan seems to be working for a kimura but Winnfield defends the submission attempt. Winnfield is looking to control Harlan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Winnfield avoid being mounted? Harlan tries to stand and escape but Winnfield actually recovers to full guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Winnfield tries for a takedown but Harlan circles away easily and Harlan moves into the clinch. Harlan prevents a takedown attempt there.
Harlan tries to stall but Winnfield uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winnfield tightens his grip and picks Harlan up, before dumping him to the ground. Harlan manages to land in guard. Winnfield would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Winnfield is fighting to break Harlan's control of his arms but Harlan is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Winnfield trying to control but Harlan is working from the bottom. Harlan pulls Winnfield in to control the position. Winnfield throwing strikes but missing. Winnfield trying to control the position from guard on top but Harlan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Winnfield avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Harlan misses with a takedown and Winnfield counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Harlan's guard now. Harlan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Winnfield trying to control but Harlan is working from the bottom. Harlan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Winnfield's guard. Harlan stopping the sweep attempt from Winnfield. Winnfield keeping moving, preventing Harlan from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jules Winnfield dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Harlan gets in close and instigates a clinch. Harlan gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Winnfield regains guard.

Winnfield is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Harlan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Winnfield wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harlan keeps working. Harlan is trying to stand up here but Winnfield is controlling him well. Harlan wants to control but Winnfield is keeping busy.
Winnfield is looking for a kimura here.
Winnfield is tying to control. Harlan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Harlan keeps control of the position for the meantime. Harlan is staying active underneath Winnfield, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Winnfield wants to work for an arm triangle but Harlan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Harlan fails with an attempt to clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jules Winnfield. I think Winnfield has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
