1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Michael Sands! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Francis DeMontford and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Canela walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Jean Carlos Canela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice takedown defense from Sands. No joy for Canela on that attempt. Sands unleashes a big counter combination but Canela bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Canela gets tackled into the cage by Sands. Sands maintains the clinch. Sands is trying to push Canela away but Canela has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Sands prevents the takedown attempt.

Nice body punch from Sands. Sands stuns Canela with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Sands clinches. Sands lands a hook to the side of the head. Canela is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Sands is defending well. Sands tries to break the clinch but Canela is controlling the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sands is pushing Canela up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Nice body punch from Sands - that landed with a thud.

Canela goes for a double leg but Sands avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sands continues to drive forward.
