Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex James!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James swats away the attempt to clinch by Reese.

Reese gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
James keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Reese's efforts to push away.

James decides to pull guard.
Reese wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

James uses the cage to get back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reese wants to clinch.
Reese sets himself, and James steps forward looking for the clinch! Reese avoids it this time.
Reese wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.
James closes the distance and clinches up with Reese, looking for a takedown. James pushes Reese against the cage but Reese circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reese fails in his attempt to clinch.
James wants to counter with a clinch but Reese pushes him away.
Reese is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Reese tries to clinch up but James circles away and keeps his distance.
Reese wants to clinch.

Reese pushes James up against the cage in a clinch.
James tries to score a body lock takedown but Reese shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
James has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Reese is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
John Reese has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex James.
Reese lands a shoulder strike.
James misses with a punch on the inside.
Reese has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Reese looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
James wants a takedown but no success here.
James goes for a takedown attempt but Reese pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

James keeps the fight on the outside.

Reese darts in and clinches James up against the cage.
James drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Reese gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
James prevents Reese from breaking the clinch.
Reese has had enough of the clinch but James keeps him there for the moment.
Reese definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Reese has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
James is working for takedown but Reese is calmly controlling the position for now.
A knee to the head by James.


It looks like John Reese has been cut.
Reese wants to break the clinch but can't.
James is looking for a takedown.

Reese is fighting off a takedown attempt but James is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Reese to the mat. Reese regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Reese preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
James throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Reese works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
James postures up and lands a big shot to Reese's brow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reese avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
James pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Reese is keeping the position for now.
Reese working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from James.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
James throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Reese with a hook.
Reese tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.
James circles away from the clinch attempt.
Reese is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
James wants to counter with a clinch but Reese pushes him away.
James takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reese swivels and escapes.
James tries to clinch there but Reese circles away.
Reese tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. James manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Reese tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Good standup being displayed there by Reese as he connects with a hook.

Reese takes the fight into the clinch.
James is trying to drag Reese to the mat but Reese just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

James pulls guard.
James controlling the position.
Reese has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
James lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Reese avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alex James will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on John Reese's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Reese is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
James let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Reese moves in looking to clinch but James pushes him off.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Reese closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
James softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

James turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

James is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Reese looks calm but he's in trouble here. James gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Reese is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! James lets go of the hold and Reese can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alex James!
Our winner, Alex James, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
