PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bongo Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor McGready (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bongo Drum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Connor McGready!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drum fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Drum steps to the side to avoid the strikes from McGready.
Drum misses with the combination.
McGready lands a body shot.
McGready swats away the attempt to clinch by Drum.
Drum will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McGready throws out a counter right but Drum avoids it with no problem.
Drum bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of McGready's head.
Drum takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
McGready throws a leg kick that is checked

and Drum decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McGready's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Drum controlling from the top position.
McGready tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drum pushing down on McGready's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
McGready wants to control but Drum is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGready keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Drum wants to free his trapped foot but McGready is holding on for dear life with his legs.

McGready is defending against the submission attempts here by Drum.
Drum is trying to control. McGready wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGready trying to control from the bottom.
Drum working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGready can do anything to dispel that myth.
McGready slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Drum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGready swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Drum throws a big elbow that misses.
Drum throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McGready works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
McGready managing to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Good standup being displayed there by Drum as he connects with a hook.

McGready does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Drum tests McGready's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Drum throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Drum fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McGready looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
McGready walks into a jab.
Drum cracks McGready with an open hand slap.
Drum jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
McGready takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A punch lands to the side of Drum 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Drum tests McGready's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Drum swings and misses with a hook to the body.
McGready swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGready takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Connor McGready is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Drum connects with the punch.
A big left from McGready misses.
McGready has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
McGready missing with a left hand there. Drum was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Drum lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

McGready throws a lazy uppercut

and Drum decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McGready's guard.
Drum missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Drum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGready swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Drum trying to control the position from guard on top but McGready is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGready really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drum. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McGready is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drum controls from within his opponent's guard.
Drum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Drum wants to pass the guard but McGready is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bongo Drum dominated that round.
That's time! Drum's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

McGready lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Drum lands a head shot.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Drum here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Drum throws a jab when McGready was well out of range.
Drum is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McGready can do to turn this around?
Drum closes the distance but McGready moves to the side
and McGready counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Drum lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
McGready tests Drum's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drum looks to throw the jab but McGready is out of range.
McGready cracks Drum with a right hand to the side of the head.


Drum is rocked!
Drum comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Oh Drum is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McGready throws a body punch but Drum moves out of range.
Drum seems to have got his legs back now.
McGready moves away from the strike by Drum.
McGready lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Drum tests McGready's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Drum uses good head movement to avoid the hook from McGready.
McGready throws a leg kick but Drum checks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGready ducks under a wild hook from Drum.
Drum staying out of range there.
Drum looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Drum tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McGready was well out of range. Poor timing from Drum.
McGready throws a hook but Drum avoids it easily.
Drum half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
McGready connects with a right hand. Drum shakes it off.
McGready missing with a left hand there. Drum was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McGready slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
McGready cracks Drum with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A shot to the liver by Drum. Beautiful body shot.
Drum has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McGready finds it's way round the side to connect with Drum's head.
Drum stuns McGready with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McGready moves out of range of the strikes.
Drum moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Drum walks straight into a right hand from McGready - that's dropped him! McGready jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Drum from any more punishment! Drum complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Connor McGready!
Our winner, Connor McGready, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
