Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Witt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitry Petrenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Witt comes to the cage accompanied by Animal by Disturbed. Petrenko is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bro Hymm/ Pennywise. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Aaron Witt!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dmitry Petrenko!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrenko tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Witt swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Witt with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Witt lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Witt waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Petrenko.
Witt takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Witt moves out of range of the body kick from Petrenko.
Witt lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Petrenko throws a lazy right hand but Witt sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Witt throws a series of punches but Petrenko avoids them all with ease.
A jab from Petrenko finds it's way through Witt's defenses.
A low kick from Petrenko misses
and Witt counters with a nice uppercut.
Witt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Petrenko misses with a straight left.
Witt with a nice cross.
Petrenko on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Witt takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Petrenko misses with a right hand
and Witt counters with a stiff right hand.

Petrenko scores with a punch to the head.
Witt scores with a shot to the body.
Petrenko throws a head kick that misses
and Witt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A combination from Petrenko does no damage.
Witt on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Petrenko is looking to clinch but Witt is avoiding it.
Petrenko takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A decent looking cross lands there for Witt.
Petrenko connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Witt's hands.
Petrenko tries to clinch but Witt is having none of it.

Petrenko rushes Witt and presses him up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Petrenko tries to land a knee to the head but Witt blocks with his arms.
Petrenko blocks a body shot from Witt.

Petrenko turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Witt tries to bench press Petrenko off him but Petrenko keeps the position.
Petrenko scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Witt to see if he's OK.
Petrenko tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Witt is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Witt is trying to control Petrenko's posture but Petrenko avoids it.
Petrenko lands an elbow.
Witt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
My spies in Montreal Elite Gym inform me that Petrenko has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

It looks like Witt has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Petrenko stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


It looks like Aaron Witt has been cut.
Witt throws a shot from downtown. Petrenko moves away and avoids it.

The fighters circling - Petrenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Petrenko misses with a straight right.
Witt lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Petrenko at a distance.
Petrenko staying out of range there.
Witt throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Petrenko stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A head kick from Petrenko lands but Witt takes it in his stride.
Petrenko uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Witt.
Petrenko walks into a stiff left hand from Witt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Witt gets tackled into the cage by Petrenko. Petrenko maintains the clinch.
Witt swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Witt tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Petrenko tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Petrenko blocks a punch to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close round but Dmitry Petrenko will probably get the nod.

Witt appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
The fighters circle momentarily. Witt darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Witt is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Petrenko wants to take the fight to the mat but Witt manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Witt has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Petrenko looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Witt has picked Petrenko up and slammed him! Petrenko can't keep hold of the triangle and Witt manages to pass to side control!

Witt has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Petrenko's face.

Petrenko tries to lock up and control but Witt gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Witt pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Petrenko bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Petrenko swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Petrenko has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Witt finds it's way round the side to connect with Petrenko's head.


Petrenko is rocked!
Witt cracks Petrenko with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Petrenko tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Witt pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Petrenko is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Aaron Witt!
Aaron Witt retains his lightweight title!
An out of breath Aaron Witt thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
