Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thiago Cotta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruki Rabota!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotta misses with a takedown attempt - Rabota sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Despite the aggression on Rabota's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Rabota looks to land a body kick but Cotta moved away.
Rabota tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cotta swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rabota uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
It looks like Thiago Cotta has been cut.
Cotta moves into the clinch.
Rabota with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Rabota breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cotta gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rabota connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cotta is rocked!
Rabota shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cotta circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rabota pushes Cotta up against the cage in a clinch.
Rabota stalling.
Cotta tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Cotta. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cotta drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cotta with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rabota pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cotta throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rabota.
Cotta tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rabota defends well and Cotta ends up having to push Rabota into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
A jab from Rabota does it's job there.
Cotta moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Oh Cotta is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cotta shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rabota counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Cotta out cold! What a finish! Rabota is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ruki Rabota!
