Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bobby Tate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Eldridge! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tate fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Eldridge misses with a head kick.
Tate misses with a takedown and Eldridge counters with a head kick. That will keep Tate thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Eldridge works Tate's body with a nice hook. Eldridge drives through and clinches with Tate against the cage.
Tate has Eldridge pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Eldridge manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Tate. That's going to take a lot out of him. Eldridge working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
It looks like Bobby Tate has been cut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Eldridge lands an elbow inside. Eldridge keeps control of Tate as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Eldridge lands an elbow just above Tate 's eye. Eldridge lands an elbow just above Tate 's eye. Eldridge told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Eldridge lands a damaging elbow. Tate managing to block the knees to the body from Eldridge.
Tate jumps guard and drags Eldridge to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Eldridge pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tate is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tate looking to hit a scissor sweep but Eldridge is one step ahead there. Eldridge looking to pass the guard. Eldridge makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Eldridge has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Eldridge lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tate working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Eldridge doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Tate is tightening it up a little... Eldridge has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Eldridge reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Eldridge taps out! Nice BJJ there by Tate!
