Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willie Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamal Mohammed! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mohammed looks to land a combination. Johnson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Mohammed lands a head shot. Mohammed cracks Johnson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Johnson gets a clinch. Johnson prevents Mohammed from breaking the clinch. Johnson pulls guard. Johnson trying to control the position here. Johnson continues to stall. Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Johnson passes the guard and advances to mount! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mohammed working to try and regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson working the ground and pound effectively.
Johnson lands a big elbow. Mohammed has left one of his arms exposed and Johnson doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Mohammed screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Willie Johnson! Jamal Mohammed spoke after the fight, saying 'losses happen whatever im still going to be the best ever'.
