PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ellis Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pascual Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ellis Park!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Some wild striking there from Perez.
Perez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Park swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Park darts in trying to clinch
and Perez counters with a one-two to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Park tries to keep at a distance but Perez has taken the fight into the clinch.

Perez has Park pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Perez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Park tumbling to the mat - Perez dives into Park's guard.
Perez wants to control from the top but Park keeps moving.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Perez working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Park haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Perez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Park is proving hard to escape from.
Park pulls Perez in close to his closed guard and prevents Perez from doing any damage or advancing position.
Perez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Perez won't allow Park to sweep him here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Park pulls Perez in close to prevent any damage.
Park really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Perez wants to stand but Park is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Park tries to clinch up.
Perez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Perez tries to get set, Park tries to push him back and clinch up but Perez manages to avoid the attempt.

Perez moves into range and clinches up with Park.

Park escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Perez shoots for a takedown but Park saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Perez gets the takedown into side control.

Perez has hold of Park's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Park tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Perez cranks the arm and Park screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Park, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Pascual Perez!
