PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darryl Higgins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shreds Mckenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Darryl Higgins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shreds Mckenzie!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mckenzie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Higgins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Higgins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Higgins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Higgins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mckenzie throws a strike but Higgins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mckenzie can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mckenzie wants to clinch.
It looked like Higgins was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Higgins goes for a double leg but Mckenzie avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mckenzie continues to drive forward.

Mckenzie shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Higgins manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

We've been informed that Mckenzie has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Higgins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mckenzie has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Higgins off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Higgins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mckenzie smiles and moves away.

Higgins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Darryl Higgins.
I think Higgins has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
