PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rigoberto Lamas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flash Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Brazilian National Anthem. Flash Gordon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Flash Gordon!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gordon slips under a jab from Lamas.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gordon.
Lamas tries for a takedown but Gordon circles away easily
and Gordon counters with a stiff right hand.
Gordon buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lamas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rigoberto Lamas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Gordon counters with a good low kick that Lamas was not able to check.

Lamas scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gordon in his tracks.
Gordon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gordon will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Gordon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lamas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gordon knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lamas is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Lamas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gordon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lamas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gordon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lamas holds on and takes a little breather.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lamas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gordon manages to get himself to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Lamas has his foot on Gordon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gordon works his way back into a safe position though.

A very excited looking Rigoberto Lamas rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
